I'm talking about before I went to college. My father provided my support but he was running from an indictment so a relative claimed me as a dependent and did the FAFSA thing, i.e. I had financial need but the relative made me ineligible for aid.

But yeah man that socialism is horrible some way or another. I know cause Limbaugh told me.
Well then move to Europe or maybe some socialist paradise like Cuba or Venezuela would suit you better. You won't be missed.

I have a friend that did exactly that. Took her educated self to the Netherlands for a job and has loved it so much she's decided to stay and bought a home there. I think she's a citizen after five years or so. The thing that took the most adjustment was the month long vacation. You contribute to it throughout the year and then take it with the funding for it.

You're implying distaste for Houston because it holds people accountable for violating court orders. Republican cities also arrest people who violate court orders. It appears that you don't like the U.S. justice system where violating a court order is a crime. So you won't like living in the U.S. since it has a justice system you don't appreciate.

You do realize that neither Obama nor Clinton introduced the court system. The idea of court orders predates the United States. The other party supports the existing court system. But keep worshipping your Obama. Whatever makes you happy.

Not their problem that you never utilized that degree, in over 30 years, to move up in the world. But they still loaned it to you in good faith, and you signed the paperwork. You owe that money.

Amen!

I never suggested I don't owe that money. (Although if you accept the premise that the financial aid system shortchanges some needy students due to no fault of their own, you could argue I never should have had to borrow in the first place.)

Since we agree that I owe the money, why do you acquiesce to allowing borrowers with more money than I a free pass by not having to repay one dollar? Students who borrowed after income-driven programs were created can make up to 150% of federal poverty level (more than $17,500 per year) without having to repay one dime.

But do tell us, what does the holder of a terminal liberal arts degree (e.g. one who did not continue to law school) do to utilize that degree? And why are so many liberal arts graduates working at coffee shops and other low-wage employers?

It was never a legal or valid role of the fed govt. to play loan shark (with street enforcers and all ) with our taxpayer money.
