It's quite obviously that less religious societies are more advanced. Poorly educated people often have difficulties to comprehend complex coherences. For them it's easier to believe in miraculous nonsense.
Remember that when the Doc's look you in the face and tell you that yourself or someone you love are doomed...The first words from you mouth will be OH GOD.....

The main cause of the current heroin epidemic is people being prescribed addictive drugs becoming hooked and switching to the far cheaper heroin when they can't afford their prescribed meds. They don't use to get high, they use to approach some semblance of being straight.

And when that same Doc taps below your knee with his little rubber mallet, your leg jerks. Reflexes are funny things, eh?
There is no freedom of religion without it being accompanied by freedom from religion.
Common argument used comflating 'religion' and 'tradition' in the establishment of our laws, most states being English common law with Louisiana being napoleanic code.
Since that's usually an atheistic contention, it unfortunately is a canard as much of English common law arose from certain religious principles. Additionally, one can make strong arguments all laws arose from religious principles.

As one can also make strong arguments all laws arose from common sense. i.e. The first man who stole his neighbors food and got his butt kicked as a result learned quickly that stealing wasn't a good thing, no religion involved.

Common sense and legal precedents are 2 unrelated things. So what one 'thinks' and 'feels' is often irrelevant to legal interpretation and application.

I think religion is (and should be) irrelevant to legal interpretation and application in the US.
And you've said nothing to disprove the notion that laws spring from common sense and not religion.

Unfortunately, we're a poorly educated society, and many will substitute religion for some ideology or false message of hope they can latch on to.
The problem is people often can't be religious w/ out taking it so seriously.
