Rockefeller Family Fund divests from fossil fuels, which built family's fortune

What made them wealthy beyond dreams is also killing the earth and they are no longer afraid to admit it.

At this point I don't really know how you can deny climate change.

The clean energy industry also created a boat load of jobs the past two months.

They're probably now into ripping off taxpayers for government climate grants full-time.

Too little too late...they've been suppressing information on climate change for decades.

The Rockefellers (Exxon/Mobile) and Rothschilds (BP/Shell) are two disgusting families that The World needs to "divest" from.

And the family has been fighting with Exxon for a decade...
Members of the Rockefeller family tried to get ExxonMobil to acknowledge the dangers of climate change a decade ago – but failed in their efforts to reform the oil giant.

In letters, lunch meetings, and shareholder resolutions, the descendants of John D Rockefeller, founder of the oil empire that eventually became Exxon, sought repeatedly to persuade the company to abandon climate denial and begin shifting their business towards clean energy.

“We were really begging the company to look harder at what they were doing. They were still into climate denial and funding deniers and really against any positive steps,” said Neva Rockefeller Goodwin, a co-director of the Global Development and Environment Institute at Tufts University, who helped lead the reform effort.

Some people really need to update their 19th century caricatures.

Now that is something we can agree on.

But 2004 was like yesterday considering that Exxon knew about climate change since the 1970's and has been spreading misinformation and disinformation since that time-damage that is STILL being felt.

As I said-too little, too late. Sadly, it makes little difference now, but I'm sure people like you will eat it up. Pathetic!

Why? The Rockefeller funded campaign by "hit piece" against Exxon is 19th century yellow journalism at its finest.

founder of the oil empire that eventually became Exxon

Either the writer for The Guardian is intentionally leaving out facts, or is unaware and didn't bother to check/didn't care about the details before 'putting fingers to keyboard'.

Rockefeller founded the oil empire that eventually became Exxon, AND OTHER LARGE OIL COMPANIES. Exxon represents Standard Oil of New Jersey, Standard Oil of New York, and Standard Oil of Louisiana. The Rockefeller behemoth also originally included a 'Standard Oil of' in 8 other states, in addition to Standard Atlantic and also The Ohio Oil Company...among other subsidiaries.

Standard Oil of California - became Chevron
Standard Oil of Ohio - (The Standard Oil Company) - Sohio - eventually acquired by British Petroleum
Standard Oil of Kentucky - acquired by Standard Oil of California which became Chevron
Standard Oil of Indiana - renamed Amoco - eventually acquired by British Petroleum
Standard Oil of Iowa - eventually acquired by Standard Oil of California
Standard Oil of Minnesota - eventually acquired by Standard Oil of Indiana
Standard Oil of Illinois - eventually acquired by Standard Oil of Indiana
Standard Oil of Missouri - dissolved
Standard Atlantic - merged with Richfield to become ARCO, sold to British Petroleum, and now those assets are owned by Tesoro, and by Sunoco.
The Ohio Oil Company - now known as Marathon Petroleum
