Would you torture a terrorist if it meant you could get info to stop a bombing? How far would you go? Personally I firmly believe that even if we had to torture the terrorists family to death it would be worth it. War is a messy business, no one like to see how sausage is made. You can not have it for breakfast by petting a cow. Blood must be spilled. Where is your line? If it would save 100 people would you torture the child of a terrorist in front of them to get info? What if it was a Nuke and you would save a million people? IMO if we want to win we have to do what ever it takes. Extraordinary times take extraordinary measures. I know the Hippie liberal will say never the same Dukaus idiot answer that he would not want the death penalty for someone who rapped and murdered his wife. This only leads to more crime and more death. Some times you have to cut off the arm to save the body. Sorry liberal but this is the real world not some kumbya world.

Hey, let's behead their children in front of them, if it yields no intel we can always claim the 'monkey see' monkey do' defense and go far towards killing the notion America is somehow 'different'.

It'd bring peace because there'd be no reason to fight them, we'd be just like them.

Torture is torture only when it violates the latest legal definiton......which can be changed if needed.

Apparently France and Belgium do not subscibe to the US definiton of turture as they stupidly think they can extract useful information with 'torture'.... and they can.

Torture would make me sing like a canary. Maybe it is only the liberals that would give false information under torture....they are a brave lot.

Reminds me a of a good episode of "24" where Jack Bauer needed info from a terrorist to stop a bombing. He had the bomber's family brought in on camera so the terrorist could see them and proceeded to "assassinate" the family.

Only once the terrorist revealed the info did they show he faked it and they lived.

Good luck pulling that off in real life.

Let's be clear on a few points.

1) Waterboarding is not really "torture".
Yeah, sure they redefined it fairly recently, but it still doesn't make it so.

Some US special forces get water boarded as part of their training.

It is an extension of the sissification of our whole culture, which is bad enough, but when you extend that to the military, it's just dangerous.

2) If you indiscriminately start waterboarding captured terrorists there is a very good chance you are not going to accomplish much.

If, however you have captured a person who is known to be a fairly integral part of a terror cell, then yes enhanced interrogation is likely to yield information that will save American lives.

3) To those who cry "So then we're no better than them". That is absurd. Again refer to point #1.
We aren't beheading anyone. We aren't blowing up population centers to injure innocent people. We aren't doing over the top **** like when the Russians castrated family members of the terrorist kidnappers back in the 80s (which was very effective but indeed a REAL example of "not being any better than them").

What else can be done? Like The Netherlands who were informed about this terrorist and let him go without doing anything and otherwise they will put him in a cell and talk to him for a few days and leave the lights on, day an night!

That seems the only thing they do over there.

Btw how much prison time will these guys get. Life in prison is like 20 years and with good behavior they will be out in 12-13 years and go back to do the same.

The guy in Norwegian who killed dozens didn't get more than that so if someone is planning a murder it is better to do it over there than over here. They are nuts over there.
