By that I mean, barring an actual invasion force setting foot on your land ideally shouldn't the people be the ones to decide what wars our country gets involved in? Like say hold a vote from all the people and give them all the facts and if enough people vote yes then we go to war but if not we don't?

We do, through our elected representatives(suppose to). State legislatures no longer have a say, like they once did and since that happened, we have been a world police force, with the Presidents dictating our might and not the people.

I would say after the years of quagmire in the middle east with no out on the horizon the people would not be quick to go to war anywhere that is unless we were attacked again like we were on Sept 11th 2001. If I recall correctly most of the country was raging for revenge.
Come to think about it that might have been the last time that so many of us were united. Today we are fighting mad over who can use which bathroom.

Some countries have little choice on what wars they participate in. I think NATO should be dissolved...each country's leadership should have the final say on when where and why to go to war.
