Frankly I think what these central american countries needs is not US Aid, but Powerful Contraceptives, they are the few Lat-Am Countries somewhat above replacement level fertility.

Also for all that Obama professes he is a Diversity Chief, he/his admin have pushed mexico (and provided Money) for Mexico Mexico to clamp down on its Southern Border (they have or are building a fence/stronger border enforcement), also illegal deportations of Cent-Am are up. I am not saying absolute zero, but Lat-A immigration is declining and never unlikely to be its all time high Before the 2008 Crash!

I'd like to see a viable link to your assertions that illegal immigration is down from south of our border. Besides, there are still millions of them here so what's the point? Low 10's of thousands? Still a lot of illegals coming here.

Ok please see attahed. I did not say itszero however Asian immigration has over taken Lat-Am immigration, in factLat-Am immigration since 2008 is almost net zero, here are the links.

That said I think the US needs a Immigration moratorium like we had between 1920's and 1960's (for 40-50 years) it will happen I believe in the next 15-20 years max, our immigration levels are unsustainable. Trump has got the right policies on immigration we need a TOUGHENED UP Immigration policy that BENEFITS America rather than the "free for all" approach we have now.

The current system is unsustainable and the Economy will collapse due to the Welfare/SS programs.... BIG GOVERNMENT has always been the beginning of the end, Socialism Suck and Never works... The system only works when 90% of more are contributing to the system, at the moment we have 100 Million on some form of Welfare..... Eventually the whole corrupted system will collapse.... Just my 2 cents!

Why "should" linguistically talented kids learn Chinese? Knowing Spanish is far more advantageous in the US (rightly or wrongly), and knowing French is far more advantageous in Canada. How about this: people "should" learn whatever language (s) they choose.

No, English should be the official language of this country. It's a shame our politicians have a long history of being very weak on this subject.

Exactly

No more immigration based only on family reunification.

It should be based on how much money you have to invest so that you can start a business and hire U.S. citizens.

No immigrant should get a job that an American citizen could do.

And cut off all benefits to working-age, able-bodied U.S. citizens so that they will take those jobs "that Americans won't do."

If the USA is made to have 2 official languages, what about the millions of people of do not speak either one?

I know plenty of immigrants from Africa,India, and Pakistan.

Why should they be forced to learn Spanish?

It is already enough that they have to learn English.
Why burden them with Spanish?

That is the primary reason i do not advocate Spanish as a second language.

It leaves everyone else out.

It is actually kind of discriminatory against non Spanish speaking immigrants.

This, I agree with! However, in my area, at least when it comes to what's offered in schools, Spanish is the main/only option if you want to learn another language......you have to get to college before there's an opportunity to learn something else.

There were always new immigrants.

Now they're 15% and projected to be 30% by 2050. The majority of Hispanics consider the Spanish language part and parcel of their culture and will NEVER give it up.
It is an empirical fact that there is no generational transfer of the Spanish language in the United States.

Spanish is a typical immigrant language like all the rest, and it doesn't survive beyond the second generation.

Quote:
Many non-Spanish-speaking Hispanics are shamed or ridiculed for not knowing the language.
Well, they will soon be the majority.
