I think every millennial or adult period who is supporting Bernie Sanders and/or socialism really needs to read this article. You can call it propaganda all you want but the fact remains the same is that Socialism is great until you run out of other peoples money.
Venezuela's government runs off of money from its oil monopoly, not taxation, therefore the rightie sound bit "you run out of other people's money" does not apply. Of course, they'll still say it until their voices are hoarse.
Not to mention that they have been the victim of idiotic policies, and members & friends of the government have been robbing the country blind for two decades. The problem is "socialism" as long as you think robber-baron capitalist policies make capitalism evil, too.
Find me where Bernie Sanders has ever advocated for a fixed exchange rate, or for heavily subsidized consumer goods? Those two factors alone account for most of the shortages & loss of wealth.
Wait, what am I thinking, all socialists are the same.
Will Everyone Shut Up Already About How the Nordic Countries Top Every Global Ranking?
First of all, thepolicies that we hold up as examples of Nordic supremacy are not tasteful turtleneck sweaters crafted from the finest Norwegian wool—we cannot put on a policy here or there and become Nordic. They exist within a broader societal context. The small gender gap, the chance for all students to succeed in school, the respect for the dignity of the homeless, paid leave—all of this exists because the Nordic countries are, proudly, welfare states.

Every one of the aforementioned policies exists because it is part of a welfare state, and because, in the Nordic countries unlike in America, there is no shame (and, in fact, quite a lot of pride) in being a welfare state.
Even putting aside the vast difference in attitudes toward welfare and equality, these comparisons ask too much. The Nordic countries are too small for the comparisons to work. The population (as estimated by the World Factbook in July of 2014) of all of the Nordic countries combined—Denmark (5,569,077), Finland (5,268,799), Iceland (317,351), Norway (5,147,792), and Sweden (9,723,809)—is roughly equal to the population of Texas. And it is all well and good to say that the education system of New York City stinks compared to that of Finland, but there are about 3 million more people in the former than the latter. This is to say nothing of the homogeneity of the Nordic countries, on which, one could argue, their stability and equality hinges.
Americans are proud people.......welfare is not our way of life.

They do have a personal income tax rate of 34%. Plus the graft you have to pay to get anything done in Venezuela.

Venezuela hasn't been the victim of anything, they've been doing this nonsense for decades. They have an untenable system that was completely corrupt and collapsed with the death of Chavez. Venezuela is made up of the military, the ruling class (with it's deep ties to the military), the elites (with their deep ties to the military and the ruling class), the bureaucrats (who work for the government) and lots and lots of poor controlled by mega-gangs that carry AK-47's and AR-15's.
It's a corrupt and dangerous country and is probably about to collapse into a civil war.

Hmmm. Can't say I've noticed a distinct sense of pride among people who live in cardboard boxes under freeways, but perhaps they're too proud to show it?
