I think miu has something to say worth listening to. Neither of my daughters has ever had anything like this happen to them. EVER. One is a successful business woman and the other is a successful entrepreneur they both have families and while one is a single mother (largely due to chance) the other has a good respectable man for a husband.
I see what some of these young women do. It's about manipulation, not talent or professionalism or ability. Daughter 1 just got promoted and she did it not because of what she wore, but because of her abilities. She considers a lot of the women in her age group (>30) to simply be "lazy whores" in her own words.
What happened at Stanford IMO was opportunistic rape. The guy took advantage of the situation for his own interests. On the other side of the coin I'm willing to bet the girl has more issues than time magazine and it's not the first time she's been on her back with her legs spread wide and passed out.
What I'm wrestling with is the punishment for what I consider the shaming of us all. Currently I think both should have the hide removed from their arses with a bamboo cane and made to apologize for not acting like the adults they are.
What are you talking about? Obviously people got raped. There was not talk that you are responsible for or more likely to be raped because you wore a halter top and Calvin Klein jeans or flirted with a guy. I never heard this unless it was a rape case and the clothing or sexual history defense being used abusively by lawyers against the victim. Wanting to look cute and flirting is normal for young women and men as is partying during college. Now, all of a sudden we have to act like we are living under Taliban, no drinking, no sexy clothing or parties or flirting because some guys can't handle it, just, weird. There has to be something behind this and it reeks of a trashy and entitled youth culture that goes way beyond yoga pants, flirts or beer.
Oh, yes there was plenty of talk about how women "deserved" to be raped if they dressed in skimpy dress, etc. YOu may not have been aware of it, but it was out there. This is NOT new. See: Changing Perceptions of Sexual Violence Over Time "Early studies of social perceptions of sexual violence suggested that most people pictured the crime in an extremely narrow way, involving rape in situations where the victim was violently attacked outside by a stranger at night (Anderson, 2007; Gavey, 2005). In this “classic stranger rape stereotype,” those victims who were considered to be “legitimate” were typically women who were not engaging in any “questionable” behavior such as drinking alcohol or dressing suggestively (Anderson, 2007; Dumont, 2003). According to this stereotype, clear physical force was used by the perpetrator, which was regarded as evidence that in no way had the victim consented (Dumont, 2003)."
Note the years are the years the articles were written, not the years being discussed.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_culture "During the 1970s, second-wave feminists had begun to engage in consciousness-raising efforts designed to educate the public about the prevalence of rape. Previously, according to Canadian psychology professor Alexandra Rutherford, most Americans assumed that rape, incest, and wife-beating rarely happened."

You are judging a girl based on what? Her one act of getting drunk and getting raped? Now you think she lays on her back quite a bit. Now she deserves to be punished more by having the hide removed from her arse with a bamboo cane. WTF???? Really. What planet to you live on? Your one daughter who calls a lot of women "lazy whores" sounds just like miu. Wonder where she got that attitude from.

I wouldn't be too proud if a child of mine called her peers "lazy whores".

Yeah, sorry, no. I think it was determined back in 1798 or 1803 that a person's sexual history has ZERO to do with someone choosing to rape them.

Wait, are you seriously suggesting that a rape victim be caned? Yeah, I think they do that in Saudi Arabia and Iran, and the civilized world rightly is outraged by such callous disregard for the victim of a crime.
I've been on road trips all over the US by myself. Walked through cities like Baltimore and NYC by myself. During summers in Providence, I worked in South Providence and walked several blocks at night to catch a bus. Late night subway rides in Boston. And always, never had any problems with the locals. No muggings, no assaults. There are ways of blending in, or not standing out as a potential victim. But the young women of today are just asking to be hassled by the way they act and dress. And they should be able to talk to a man or co-worker in neutral manner that isn't a flirtaceous.
Wow, you engaged in risky behaviors and lived to tell about it?
Had you been raped, it would've been your fault as well?
Getting back to our Stanford "golden boy," does anyone find it ironic that he wants/needs/is getting special protection in jail? He is "currently incarcerated in the low-security 3,500-bed Elmwood jail in Milpitas, California, where sources say he is being kept away from the general prison population due to the nature of his crimes." He doesn't have a roommate, unlike the other inmates! Now, I do understand why pedophiles have to be separated, since they are almost always attacked and even killed. But sexual assaulters/rapists? Guess Brock doesn't like the idea of sexually assaulted himself! Do most inmates get this type of treatment?
He is also applying to serve his probation in Ohio rather than California, which maybe is fair.
All this and he doesn't even get charged with perjury for lying about his past drug/alcohol aabuse and lying about the victim being conscious!

It is really curious. He also gets an escort when on the prison grounds. He should have had an escort when he was partying, ya know to prevent him from raping people.

Sure. Correct me if I'm wrong but IF she hadn't gotten so drunk she would NOT have gotten raped. IT'S CALLED LOGIC!!!
No she didn't deserve to be violated.
When it comes to punishment I think stupidity should be painful too. She was stupid, unless of course it was the brightest thing she ever did.
