Be sure to remind us of that when a leftist blames current black problems on the lasting effects of slavery and Jim Crow laws.
You want me to remind you that a 60 year old fictional story isn't true when talking about the lasting effects of slavery, segregation, redlining, Jim Crow laws, and such? Okay, but I am not sure what good it will do you, the Republicans are no longer the party of Lincoln. They have lost their way some time ago.
In the '50s and '60s interstates were plowing though neighborhoods across America, in rich and poor, and Democratic and Republican districts. It wasn't a Democratic vs Republican government issue.
Yep, but not "rich and poor", mostly poor and minority-DC, The Bronx, Miami, Philadelphia, LA, Baltimore, Seattle.
Highways in the suburbs did not cut up and cut off large swaths of high density residential areas.
Actually, my historic but majority-minority neighborhood of Germantown in Philly (where the first "White House" that George Washington lived in for some time is located, among many other historic sites) was one of the only neighborhoods to fight back and win against a proposed highway that would have destroyed the fabric of the neighborhood.
Democrats have been so bad for minorities and blacks that one of their own blacks went all the way to become president of United States. This is how bad they have been for blacks...
If they had been as good for blacks as the Republicans currently are, we would see the blacks subjected to a daily dose of victimhood, bigotry and racism like you see on FoxNews and from the GOP leader Trump.

Look up the history. Republicans have consistently fought for EQUAL rights for all people from before the Civil War when the Democrats fought to PRESERVE slavery and the Democrats came up with the Jim Crow laws that did more damage than slavery after they lost to Abe Lincoln and the Republicans.
Just because Republicans are against welfare and anything goes for anyone...does not mean they don't care and are not doing what they think is best.
What kind of parent do you want, one who says yes to everything just to get rid of you or one who says no and cares about you?

You are correct, Southern Democrats and Southern Republicans were pretty racist, and they were the majority in the party at the time.
I guess that is a fair point you have, Republicans don't care about anyone who is poor or middle class, regardless of race.
I wouldn't want a parent that says no to the one in need while giving more to the one that has everything. That just seems like bad parenting.
