Troopers insist this isn't just about seizing cash.

"I know that a lot of people are just going to focus on the seizing money. That's a very small thing that' s happening now. The largest part that we have found ... the biggest benefit has been the identity theft," Vincent said.

"If you can prove can prove that you have a legitimate reason to have that money it will be given back to you. And we've done that in the past," Vincent said about any money seized
no officer Vincent the way it works is if you can prove the money was obtained in the course of a criminal act you can use it as evidence and then return it to the rightful owner.

Yeah, no chance of abuse there.

I would have never thought this would happen there.

This is not OK.

"We're gonna look for different factors in the way that you're acting,” Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. John Vincent said. “We're gonna look for if there's a difference in your story. If there's someway that we can prove that you're falsifying information to us about your business."
Or if you're from out of state, or blink a lot, or are breathing heavily and look nervous. Or look in the rear or side mirror at us while we're sitting in our patrol car running a check on you.

This is about revenue for the state.

They should just try and sell cookies to the people they pull over. They could call it what this actually is - fundraising - and perhaps gain some good will, instead of ill will, among those they are supposed to serve.

Wouldn't the officer need a warrant to search your wallet in order to get the bank cards? As far as I know all you have to produce during a traffic stop is license, registration and proof of insurance.
