100 Nobel Laureates Demand that Greenpeace Stops Killing Poor Children - Hit & Run : Reason.com

If white children were going blind and dying the anti-gmo madness would come to an end.

From the letter

Quote:
Greenpeace has spearheaded opposition to Golden Rice, which has the potential to reduce or eliminate much of the death and disease caused by a vitamin A deficiency (VAD), which has the greatest impact on the poorest people in Africa and Southeast Asia.

The World Health Organization estimates that 250 million people, suffer from VAD, including 40 percent of the children under five in the developing world. Based on UNICEF statistics, a total of one to two million preventable deaths occur annually as a result of VAD, because it compromises the immune system, putting babies and children at great risk. VAD itself is the leading cause of childhood blindness globally affecting 250,000 - 500,000 children each year. Half die within 12 months of losing their eyesight.

So, it just affects black and brown children, not white, yellow, tanned, or beige?

Let's hear from Greenpeace on this issue:

"GE 'Golden' rice has been in development for over 20 years. The tens of millions of dollars invested in GE 'Golden' rice would have been better spent on VAD solutions that are already available and working, such as food supplements, food fortification and home gardening. Greenpeace believes that, by combating VAD with ecologically farmed home and community gardens, sustainable systems are created that provide food security and diversity in a way that is empowering people, protects biodiversity, and ensures a long-lasting solution to VAD and malnutrition."

Special Report: Golden Rice | Greenpeace International

Maybe "reason.com" is a free trade website that has connections to the ag corporations that are developing golden rice.

Maybe you do not think black and brown lives matter. The anti-science is what you are a member of.

1500 more mothers buried their children today. Thanks to the anti-science left. But who cares. They aren't white.

Rather than spew that no one cares because they aren't white, how about addressing the rebuttal presented to you in gringo's post.

That would go a lot further than the cries of "No one cares about black people" which will only serve to make most people tune you out.

Are there errors in Greenpeace's logic? Do they present claims that aren't true?

Stick to the FACTS and persuade people with sound reason if you are on the side of truth.

How about this:

In 2014, the Pew Research Center found an enormous gap between the public and scientists on the issue. Just 37 percent of adults in the United States said genetically modified foods were safe to eat, while 88 percent of scientists connected to the American Association for the Advancement of Science said the same.

1500 children are dying every day. 1500 children are going blind every day. If it was white children you can bet the anti-gmo madness would stop.

These gardens that Greenpeace speaks of are not being planted and never have been. Poverty will never be "solved". But you can sure pull out every stop to ensure impoverished children do not go blind and die.

Children are dying and the Luddites of this world are responsible with Greenpeace leading the charge. I may just go kill a whale today.

Old Gringo is a troll. I do not take seriously people who finish every comment with a smirk.

Yes there are problems with Greenpeace's logic.

Farming and other ideas they put forth are an idealized situation put forth by academics and liberals who are afraid to step out into the woods without 10 people and within cell phone range.

If farming were something the people could do they would already be growing, sustainability is a non starter because the areas and people that dwell within them aren't able to be or aren't prepared for cultivation on a self sustaining setup. A singular easy to grow crop would be far better for getting people out of a starvation rut so they can develop then some lofty BS spewed from the comfort of a posh HQ.

Personally, I'm a big fan of darwin. I don't care to send more supplies to areas that have needed them for generations with no movement towards any sort of developement. But GPS is just plain stupid in their press release.
