It looks like this is on problem the world can put behind it.

"Researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago have engineered a potentially game-changing solar cell that cheaply and efficiently converts atmospheric carbon dioxide directly into usable hydrocarbon fuel, using only sunlight for energy."
Apparently it takes CO2, sunlight and water and converts it to H2 and CO and O2. It uses a selenium and tungsten based catalyst.
"“The new catalyst is more active; more able to break carbon dioxide’s chemical bonds,” said UIC postdoctoral researcher Mohammad Asadi, first author on the Science paper.
In fact, he said, the new catalyst is 1,000 times faster than noble-metal catalysts — and about 20 times cheaper."
It sounds like a way to recycle CO2. GE and a fuel cell company found a process to create calcium carbonate out of CO2 created when coal or gas is burned. It appears the days of CO2 are numbered.
