A decision by the board of fire commissioners serving Poughkeepsie, New York sparked outrage when the panel ordered Arlington Fire District Chief Tony Gallante to remove the American flags from the rear of his trucks, the Poughkeepsie Journal first reported.

Arlington Fire Commissioners Chairman Jim Beretta said three of his members called the flags a “liability” and a “distraction to motorists.”

How the hell is this a Liability? How is it a distraction? What is wrong with this country?

That's insane. I'm not even the least bit patriotic, but when you start telling firefighters that they can't put the country's flag on their vehicles because it's a "liability" (whatever the hell they mean by that), then you've gone completely down the rabbit hole. This is the United States of America, that is an American city, and if the men and women who risk their lives every day to protect the lives and property of their fellow citizens want to show their pride in serving their country, then just stand the hell out of their way and thank them kindly. And this is coming from someone who is so far from being patriotic that I don't even stand for the national anthem.

Flags seem to be a trigger for the politically correct. In Amherst, MA you can only fly American flags along public ways in remembrance of 9/11 on every 5th anniversary. The Town Council didn't want to allow it at all but relented and allowed every 5 years. Amherst is a college town and at issue is some foreign students and faculty are offended and scared at the sight of the American flag.

Come on now people. We all know a flag is far more distracting than a giant red truck woth flashing lights, wailing sirens, and a huge ladder.

Oh the horror. The flag that is the same color as the fire truck distracts all the drivers in a 35 ft radius. Forget about that loud horn, and those bright flashing LED lights......
