Not learning English and hanging on to the culture of whatever terrible country you are from just shows us that you don't really want to be an American.
Whats your definition of an American? And who gives you the right to make that determination.Do you seriously believe you are more an American than any legal immigrant who has gone through the process of becoming an American just because you may be able to speak English better?.
You can wish these new American citizens a warm welcome= http://www.centralmaine.com/2015/11/...middle-school/
What is your opinion on the topic? Should all immigrants be required to speak English?
It has cost billions to accommodate the language handicap. The CADMV alone spends tens of millions each year to print ALL of the documents in more than 20 languages. Should road signs be printed in 20+ languages as well?
The act of assimilation requires a common language. English is our common language though there is no national language defined by law. Having a common language does not imply immigrants must not speak their native language.
People need to read up on the Tower of Babble. There's a reason why a common language is so important.
I really can't understand why a thing that IS SO obvious is debated constantly.

Let's see... I lost a grand uncle (among 2000 killed) in the channel to a uboat torpedo. My grandfather was a welder building Liberty Ships. My father served as a diver in the Navy and almost died from collapsed lungs on one such dive. I am 8th and 5th generation (maternal side/paternal side) US American (for those who need to be PC) and my family has sacrificed greatly for this country. So, YES I DO!
Apparently this poll shows 80% of others believe this as well.

So in your opinion theres degrees of being an American whereby an 8th generation American trumps a 1st or 2nd generation American?. Kudos to your forefathers for their service but IMO an American is an American and its not dependent on how long they've been in America or what sacrifices they made.

It is ALREADY the law and should be ENFORCED and is NOT
From the US Government:
"What are the basic requirements to apply for naturalization?
The process of applying for U.S. citizenship is known as naturalization. In order to be eligible for naturalization, You must first meet certain requirements required by U.S. immigration law.
Mandating an official language sounds like some beaurocratic, big-government, socialist social engineering BS.
I say take the capitalist approach and let the market decide. Since English is the dominant language of business and success, it is in no threat of being overtaken. The U.S. is not in danger of losing English so much as it is trending to having more bilingual/multilingual people who speak English as their first language. The hoards of German immigrants got it, the Italians got it, and so will the Latin Americans.
As the majority language in the USA is English it would be in an immigrants best interest to acquire a working knowledge of English however i'm not of the opinion it should be mandatory requirement.
Did the native North American Indians require all immigrants from Europe to learn their language?. Also who would dictate the level of English required in some English proficiency test, and what if a family immigrated and brought their elderly parents over are they now expected to learn a new language in their old age?.IMO the American culture works just fine as a melting pot of all cultures not just white English speaking republicans.
The American Indian thing doesn't matter cause when 1 tribe beat up another tribe, that group probably had to learn the winning tribe's language. Period.
I think it's in the best interest of those who emigrate to another land to learn the native tongue, but in no way should it be a law.
As an aside, the fed govt is not authorized nor is it moral to run any immigration schemes.
NOT true. It's on the main government to control a country's borders. Period.
