How do you handle ridicule?

Do you make everything a joke even things directed your way in lite banter among friends, or someone you just met?

Or do you immediately catch an attitude and go on the offense, with threats of violence?

I just make a mental note and hope to find that person with a flat tire and no lug wrench.

With a friend, I understand it's a joke, and joke right back. With strangers, it depends. If their comments are obviously good-natured ribbing, I go along with it, and we might become friends.

With strangers who seem mean-spirited or willfully ignorant, I bring out the snark and leave them to bleed with a thousand verbal paper cuts.

*Disclaimer* Verbal paper cuts are not violence, nor or they threats. They can, however, be unpleasant.

I probably would help with that flat tire, though. Well...if I knew how, anyway. As Southern Man surely knows, that is no job for a lady.

I was a middle school teacher, I have really, really thick skin. Seriously, anytime someone makes fun of you it really isn't about you, it's about them.

I dish it back. It's usually all in good fun. Everyone I'm close to, I banter, tease, and take the **** out of, and vice versa.

I try to laugh it off at first. If they continue, they will hear from my inner redhead.

I laugh and consider the source. Usually some loser jealous of your success or other reason.
