Labour MP Kate Hoey has come out in support of the Prime Minister's move to prorogue Parliament.
Brexiteer Hoey praises Boris’s ‘common sense’ Brexit plan - ‘Not a constitutional crisis’

Maverick Labour MP Kate Hoey has poured scorn on colleagues lambasting Prime Minister Boris Johnson for his decision to ask the Queen to suspend Parliament - saying: “This isn’t a constitutional crisis - it’s just common sense”.

Ms Hoey, a committed Brexiteer, was speaking after the Queen’s Privy Council approved Mr Johnson’s request. As a result, Parliament will be suspending in the second week of September, with a Queen’s Speech on October 14 - just 17 days before Britain is scheduled to leave the European Union.

Ms Hoey, Labour MP for Tooting, told Express.co.uk: “The whole world is going bananas, as if it’s the greatest crisis ever. It’s important to remind people that Parliament voted not to sit from September 12 to October 9 anyway.
So, how many other members of the Labour party are going to refuse to oppose Johnson next week? If it is more than just a couple, then the Remainer resistance probably does not have much of a chance.

Quite correct.

Bercow's final hand to play may be significant.

Bercow seems like the sort to try to go out with a bang, that is for sure.

However, they have to arrive at an alternative that they agree on. So far, they have been strong at coming up with alternatives that they oppose. But they have failed to vote for anything - other than invoking Article 50 and passing all the existing laws onto the books for transitional purposes - that is affirmative.

A protest vote will not do it. What will a majority agree to vote FOR?

Why would you believe the opinion of a Russian owned newspaper?

It's not gonna happen. Bercow's days are done.

You obviously didn't even read the article. The opinion expressed is that of Bercow's biographer, not the paper's editorial staff.

So much of what is posted on this thread appears to be BS.

It was only a short time ago that we were reading about how Boris Johnson had no intention of closing down parliament.

Yet here we are.

I beg to differ. Bercow has between now and perhaps as late as September 14 to do whatever damage he can. It is probably up to John Bercow to lead the Remainer's last stand.

I would not put very much past this guy. He is not completely unprincipled. But that having been said, he is a snake in the grass.

If Bercow does not pull some sort of outrageous stunt before his term is ended in the next two weeks, I will frankly be surprised.
