I am cautiously optimistic.

I'm not a medical expert, but perhaps this technique could also be used on other viral diseases such as herpes. From what I understand, the reason why herpes is so hard to cure is because the virus hides dormant and is hard to kill.

British Man May Be the First Person Cured of HIV

Quote:
A 44-year-old man in England is possibly the first person in history to be cured of HIV. Scientists working on an experimental new therapy say that the virus is now completely undetectable in his blood.

A team gathered from five UK universities is currently conducting trials on 50 people. Mark Samuels, managing director of the National Institute for Health Research Office for Clinical Research Infrastructure, told The Sunday Times, “We are exploring the real possibility of curing HIV. This is a huge challenge and it’s still early days but the progress has been remarkable.”

Maybe the first person cured using their own immune system. I believe several have been cured with a bone marrow transplant, but that's quiet invasive and expensive. Maybe in that case it was just one person. And maybe it was the donor marrow responsible. Some Europeans have natural immunity to HIV.

Never heard any claim that some Europeans have natural immunity to HIV. And only Europeans?

That's the first time I heard that. It's pretty interesting to say the least

Misleading title. There have already been many people cured of HIV. Hate to be a conspiracy theorist here but...when it comes to healthcare in the US you can just about be assured conspiracy is fact. If you have enough money you can pretty well be cured of anything in most cases. The health providers either gonna get it from you in a 400k cure or 2000 a month treatment.

Cured? Or in remission? If actually cured, I'd like to see the same science applied to all the other incurable viruses.

I have heard of this many years ago on some documentary I watched and I think either on the show 20/20 or Dateline (I think it was 20/20). Basically these people are descended from families who were immune to the bubonic plague. It was really interesting.
