No, we would not have. Wars are won in the factories. Once we entered WWII the war was won. The GDP of the Axis powers could not compete with the GDP of the Allied powers.
Yes, Patton was a racist scumbag but a good general.
Patton was, indeed, a generals general. Tough as a piece of hardtack and twice as abrasive. His virtue was that be got the job done. Yea, we all know the stories. Slapping the shell shocked soldier, his and to use Nazi troops to reinvade Russia (actually a pretty good idea) and the plethora of other character flaws. Mac Aurthur was pretty close in character, but , if its possible, perhaps a bit more arrogant and definetly more I different to the lives of the men in his command. Witness the island hopping campaign.
Patton was far better a commander to field against Rommel than was Montgomery. That is certain. Monty was no match for Rommel. Tank warfare was Patrons game, and he was at a disadvantage against far superior German equipment. But he made it work. He was a typical general of the times. Flamboyant, in his riding breeches and ivory handled Colts, a d a personality you could grind high carbon steel with.
Personally, I would have rather served under him than either Mac or Monty.
It might have delayed the surrender of NAZI Germany but not effected the outcome of the war. Whogo's comment is correct. The war was won in the factories of the US. Hitler's attack on Stalin only served to bring the war to an end faster and with more casualties.

Yep, opening up the Russian front , in winter no less, wasn't to bright. Hitler failed to recognize the industrial might of the US, just what Admiral Yamamoto warned was a grievous mistake for the Japanese. They were dumbfounded when the Yorktown popped up at Midway. Capability and resolve pug her back in the fight, when they thought she was dead. I more than record time.
The US industrial complex supplied both theatres, Atlantic and Pacific. Hitler squandered irreplaceable resources attacking Russia, and got bogged down on. his own back porch, a d got creamed from front and back, in the end. Without US arms, men, and material, that would not have been as likely a scenerio.

He had common sense about people. You call it racism.

Well that industrial might is long gone!
Trump has a plan to bring it back.

That's an interesting comment. He had "common sense about people" but we call it racism?
First of all, the United States would've won the war without Patton, and Patton is a general that i admire greatly.
However, he was an unmitigated racist, and by denying African Americans a chance to fight, it cost whites thousands of lives.
Better yet, his "common sense" ran counter to facts that he already knew about African Americans in combat because he knew damn well that blacks were among the best (if not THE best) troops in the First World War... a war that he fought in. The French made that very clear when they made sure to HEAVILY decorate African American soldiers for their bravery in WW1.
So, what "common sense about people" are you talking about? And please, don't talk around your statement because we both know what you meant.
