'Posturing' Russians to send aircraft carrier and fleet along the English Channel

Hit Hillary's reset button, hit the reset button!

The West and Moscow's relations have been strained and a couple of months ago Britain intercepted a Russian sub in the channel. Hopefully, Kerry can pull a Hillary and fix these tensions!

I don't see a problem with Russia carrier in English Channel , I would have no problem with a Russian carrier in New York harbor

Just for some perspective, Russia has one carrier group. Its a "ski ramp" type,. GB , once the greatest Navy power on Earth, only has about 80 , tot, ships now, however, they have some wicked submarine tech. The US has 19 carriers, not all of them Nimitz class super carriers , of course, probably less than half, but one super carrier group is more than ample to counter a lot of seaborne threats. Witness the largest "Navy" in the world. N Korea. Sure, lot of ships, but bout zero global force projection ability.

Anyway, Russia's single carrier isn't much of a threat. I figure GB has one or two Sea Leapords in shadow, and since the Russians aren't hiding, their single carrier group isn't much of a threat, even inside the Channel. One stupid move would see it shaking hands with Davey Jones. Its another show the flag move. Even with our Naval strength as down as it is, Russia is in no burry to engage us at sea. Not out of range of their land based aircraft anyway, like the TU22s and MiG 25/29s, and let's toss in their Bears for giggles. Land based, high speed aircraft has always been their counter to Western sea power. Their carrier doesn't have the force projection to amount to much.

It was announced by Russian media back in January that their one carrier, a 30 year old jump carrier, would be deployed to the Mediterranean in October in order to launch air strikes in Syria. So the title of this thread should actually be:

Russia finally gets around to moving its only carrier through the English Channel on its way to Syria

This. Russia doesn't have a strong navy at all or much force projection capabilities aside from their submarines.

The British Navy has readied the HMS Duncan, a Type 45 destroyer, and HMS Richmond, a Type 23 frigate, to intercept the Russian vessels should they approach British waters, a defence source told The Times. An RAF Rivet Joint spy plane, C130 Hercules and Typhoon jets will also reportedly be on standby.“UK and NATO assets routinely monitor warships from other nations when they enter our area of interest and this will be no different,” a Ministry of Defence spokesperson said in an official statement.

The Russians have always done this kind of thing, still it's better than last time in 2015 when they flew bombers through the English Channel, one of which was carrying nuclear weapons.
