Donald Trump said Monday night that the Obamacare system is at death's door, hours after the Obama administration confirmed double-digit rate hikes for consumers in the 39 states that participate in the government-controlled insurance marketplace.
......
Before taxpayer-provided subsidies, premiums for a mid-level benchmark plan will increase an average of 25 per cent, with some facing much bigger jumps.
And about 1 in 5 consumers will only be able to choose from among plans offered by a single insurer. Major national carriers such as UnitedHealth Group, Humana and Aetna have scaled back their roles or pulled out of the Obamacare markets entirely.
I'd like to see comments on this. I haven't been following the various healthcare proposals closely.
If the insurance companies cannot give fair rates in a world where they can't deny for pre-existing conditions, then what we need is a Medicare for all system.
And premiums were skyrocketing long before Obamacare.
My insurance went from 300 a month to 800 a month. All in two years! I also just received a letter from Humana telling me that they are terminating my plan... yay. #ObamasFantasyWorld
Doesn't matter. Only the middle class gets hit by this. We dont enjoy the perks of socialism as we are hardworking people. The freebies are for lazy freeloaders who are going to make Hillary win. We are outnumbered but still I am voting for Trump. Thats the only way I will be heard. At every level I am voting for Republicans. I am not even researching the candidates. Just looking at their party affiliation & voting for Republicans. We need to have some representation in govt.
How does this whole thing impact those who have employer sponsored health insurance coverage, perhaps indirectly? I mean, not just about their plans (whether they stay with their employer sponsored plans or choose to buy beyond that), but also, I suppose, their premiums could also be affected, right? (employer sponsored doesn't mean free)

Prior to 2014, employer group health plans could place preexisting condition clauses for the first year of an enrollees coverage. As of 2014, they are no longer legally allowed to do that. So some pressure to cover preexisting conditions will apply to employer group health plans. Not as much pressure as individual plans, where prior to 2014 preexisting clauses could be part of the contract and last forever.

Fyi, I am an immigrant from Asia.
What are you talking about. These are not lazy freeloaders. These are people who work hard but are still struggling to get healthcare. And good grief, don't you think republicans have enough representation in government
