At least according to the NY Post.

Justice Department to charge cop in death of Eric Garner

Justice Department to charge cop in death of Eric Garner | New York Post

I'm not sure what took so long. He should have been charged immediately afterwards.

This sounds like yet another circus.

From what I've read it looks like the ony thing they are going to charge the officer with is that Garner's civil rights were violated? I could be interpreting what I've read wrong, but how do you even prove that?

It won't go anywhere.

Cops rarely get the justice they deserve when they kill unarmed civilians.

D.C. is actually taking over because NY refuses to prosecute.

D.C. replaced the lawyers and FBI agents investigating the case. I haven't seen any reports that New York team 'refused' to prosecute. Apparently, D.C. thought they were taking too long to do the politically correct thing and charge the police officer.

Any charges would still be brought in the state of New York in a federal court. Potato/Potato.

But the case had been slowed by a dispute because federal prosecutors and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials in New York opposed bringing charges, while prosecutors with the Civil Rights Division at the Justice Department in Washington argued there was clear evidence to do so.
