You'll change your tune if, God forbid, you get a six-figure hospital bill threatens you with losing your home. Large medical bills are the number one cause of personal bankruptcy.

Solution: Single-payer healthcare for all. Cutting all forms of corporate welfare, subsidies, tax shelters and loopholes will go a long way towards funding it.

Paul Ryan Says Medicare Privatization Is On
Not a bad thing, but we have to free up the rest of the industry as well. Also, he isn't talking about getting rid of it, but privatizing it.

Same with SSI, both are great options, but the individual MUST retain the right to choose for themselves as they see fit within the issue. Man I would have loved to not have SSI from the start and be able to choose how I used my money as I saw fit and invest it as I saw best. Government is filled with IDIOTs, they have no clue what is best for me.

Same with Medicare, let people setup their own plans themselves, customize them as they see fit.

Everyone needs to get the hell off the government dole!!! FFS people, stop being slaves to your government, you are free people, start acting like it.

The issue with SSI and Medicare is that people have been heavily taxed for it, they have a right to be pissed if it all falls away, so there should be either a move to a private system or a payback system to pay who paid in and eventually phase it out.

I read the first sentence and realized this was a tender snowflake rant piece, and decided it was a worthless waste of my time.

During the campaign, coverage of the issues was blotted out by coverage of Hillary Clinton’s emails and Donald Trump’s broad suite of sociopathic tendencies.

That's a lie right there; "Obamacare" actually has helped Medicare, not harmed.

While one has high hopes for the Republican party in 2017 methinks that old adage about having learned nothing will apply. In only one year (2018) the election cycle will begin for mid-term elections, and depending how things are going with the Trump presidency the House had better watch how they play their hand.

if this concerns me I will enter into a voluntary (well, used to be voluntary) contract with an insurance company to protect myself against that risk.

My decisions are my responsibility; your decisions are yours.

My youngest was born premature and spent 6 weeks in the NICU. total bill was about $212,000.

per my agreement with the insurer I was responsible for $2000 of it, and the hospital would voluntarily knock it down to $1,800 if I'd pay on the spot, which I did.

I'm a moderate conservative and agree with this.

Good for you. Unfortunately most people don't have the money to pay into a special program or take out additional payments to pay for the unthinkable. It's not as simple as you pay yours and I'll pay mine. Seems to me people care more about the general well being of everyone as opposed to yourself only in many countries outside the US.

I'm with you, all the way. But we know who just became POTUS. "Cut all forms of corporate welfare, subsidies, tax shelters and loopholes"?
