Trump needs to pull up his adult pants and deal with the fact that we, as Americans, have the right to use the First Amendment and say what we think needs to be said.

If he gets upset by an actor addressing Pence, he's going to have a melt down when he sees, and hears, people protesting outside the White House. Grow up, Donald. It isn't all about you and your feelings.

Exactly. I think Trump calling for a safe space absolutely qualifies him as a precious snowflake. President Snowflake has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

what???? Not at all. This is ENTERTAINMENT. If it's not entertaining, people will not buy. Nothing else matters.

Nah, not These actors. The people who were booing Pence were apparently members of the audience. The actor who spoke after the show ended addressed Pence, & also asked the audience not to boo.

I believe this as well.

There is a message in every political work of art. People buy tickets to see a show superbly done, sure. But the show is not "Oklahoma." It wasn't created to make you smile in delight, but maybe think (?)

The bracing fusion of hip hop and the musical form shows that America’s history—and its future—belong to men and women of color as profoundly as to anyone else.—The Nation

Seriously, what did he expect? People voted against him and Trump, not for their candidates.

Trumps response is fascinating, the demand that the theater should be a safe space and the demand that they apologize for....delivering a polite message. Lincoln would disagree about theaters being safe spaces. And the actors had a very polite message. I wish half of the folks here were as polite
Like most media accounts, who knows if that's even true.

For all we know, he was staying were his security detail told him to stay until they were ready to go from the theatre to the car.

Yeah there was some irony with what Trump said, but does anyone really disagree that we should be able to go to places for entertainment and be safe and not bothered while we enjoy it.

I seem to recall the Obama's frequently going out for date nights, shopping sprees, etc. I sure they may have encountered hecklers, but I doubt the principals/employees of the places they visited used that opportunity to lecture them or make statements to them about policy. Don't recall seeing that.

The cast knew he was coming. They could have asked him backstage, informed him they wanted a convo with him, given him a chance to respond and then tweeted or used some other platform to get their message out.

That might have been useful to the country.

Even though the Pres/VP are on call 24/7, the guy basically was not on the clock. We don't own every minute of their day, unless it becomes necessary. He and his family are entitled to privacy when in public unless they invite people into their space, like any other American.

Again...It has nothing to do with freedom of speech as I have no problems with that in and of itself. But in this particular case on such a topic, making a "speech" is not appropriate on the subject matter at hand if side A really wants to convince side B/persuade them to see their side. For such a topic, a back and forth dialogue, NOT a speech on a bully pulpit, is the approach that is most effective for both sides. You know, give and take, exchange views/ideas, etc., not preaching/a one way street.

And once again, if this side had any smarts, they'd realize people don't like being preached too. Can they take the approach they did, freedom of speech and all that? Of course! Their right. Is it a smart way to persuade/get the other side to come to their side of thinking?

No.

It's already apparent that there will be lots of hand holding in this administration, people taking the Donald and his people by the hand to show them this is how things are done now. Thanks to the Tea Party and the rest of the get Obama right wing nobody needs to show respect for the office or the person who holds the office of president.

The booing and jeering that President Obama got in congress and disrespectful treatment from politicians and voters alike have created a paradigm shift in how we view the President of the United states.

Fortunately for Barack Obama he could go to countries outside of the United States and get the respect that was denied him in the US. I don't even think Putin will show the Donald any respect now that Putin knows how easy it was to manipulate him.
