Yes, this is the reason. It is incredibly disruptive for people living and working in the city to have the First Family living in Trump Tower. Furthermore, it is outrageously expensive to provide security there. Obama's opponents never missed an opportunity to criticize the current occupants of the White House for taking the occasional vacation, but somehow this is acceptable? I don't think so.

Sour grapes.

And I didn't vote for him.

If he's bankrupt, then why are many in the media whining about conflicts re his business interests and soliciting experts for guest spots who are also whining about the same? Answer: Because they know he isn't bankrupt (and you do as well...it's just sour grapes on your part). Trump has never declared personal bankruptcy, and CBS puts his number of business bankruptcies at 4. Wikipedia puts the number at 6. He currently has a stake in over 500 ventures. Between January 1st and the election, according to Forbes, he saw 800 million USD shaved off of his net worth (4.5 billion down to 3.7 billion). After winning the election, I imagine that has rebounded a bit.

He never released his tax returns so we truly have no idea if he shaved "$800 million" off of his net worth

See post #210.

I never heard ANYONE of either party complain that Obama's house in the Hyde Park section of Chicago gets FULL protection. A significant reason is likely that each POTUS/POTUS elect is allowed to designate one residence other than the White House for full protection. If this is such an issue for some people, then why didn't those people grill Trump via Twitter or some other means and use his 'Trump Tower' answer to motivate people to not vote for him? Oh that's right, he wasn't going to win.

An intra-year (within the same year) decrease in net worth for a CURRENT year isn't going to be reflected on tax returns from PREVIOUS years. I put it that 'he' shaved 800 million off his net worth because the decrease (as estimated by FORBES) was the hit to the value of his brand from January 1st until the election re unpopular things HE said, plus some personal money HE spent on his campaign.

Nobody currently lives in the Hyde Park house, and as I recall, the Obamas have used homes in Martha's Vineyard, Hawaii, and recently, California as alternate residences during his tenure in the White House, specifically because using the Hyde Park home causes major disruption for neighbors. What gives you the impression that the Hyde Park home has been under "full protection" for the past eight years?

No, they don't. As a CANDIDATE he would have owed people an explanation IF someone had asked him this question, as someone might want to give that weight re deciding who to vote for, but as the POTUS elect he is entitled to the same full protection for one private residence that POTUS elects before him were entitled to.

Why didn't anyone ask him about this issue before the election? Arrogance. Thinking there was no chance that he would win.

The right thing to do would be for Donald to pay the security detail costs himself until Melania and Barron move to the White House. He can afford it.

It's absurd that everyone else should have to foot their bill.
Nope. Nothing but sour grapes. You just don't like that he is the POTUS elect.

He's not even president yet and we're already paying his bills. Ridiculous.
He's the POTUS elect. We have also paid to protect past POTUS elects, but I'm sure you know that.
