If people have such an issue with it, they should lobby their congressmen and women to enact some type of legislation requiring first families to move into the WH within a certain # of days.
It was also abnormal for cons to be so concerned and disdainful over an Obama vacation, but that never stopped them!
They should have lobbied their congress critters to enact a law about how many vacations a president gets and how much he can spend on them!
I wonder how many children could be fed with that $147M? Or how many schools could be rehabbed? Or any number of more noble causes that could be enabled by that one hundred forty-seven million dollars?

They are not trying to be nasty. It has nothing to do with hate and it has nothing to do with being a female They just want their city back without the secret service closing blocks around Trump towers. This affects the businesses there. This affects the traffic which is already horrible. Plus, they have to hire more cops which New Yorkers have to pay for. Why is it necessary to disrupt the every day lives of people in NY. They are not equipped to deal with this. She is going to be the first lady now so she should live in the white house since DC is equipped to handle all of this.

I was not under the impression that this was about the seven weeks remaining until he takes the oath of office but rather Melania and Barron choosing to stay behind after President-elect Trump moves into the White House. It's a conundrum. The security protocol is already having a negative effect on the businesses surrounding Trump Tower, and those business owners are rightfully frustrated over the situation. When President Obama visited Denver maybe a couple of years ago, the entire downtown was thrown into chaos, but at least it lasted only a day. This is going to continue for many more months, and we're deep into the holiday season, so I have no doubt that there are a lot of angry people in Manhattan right now.
But it absolutely does warm one's heart to see the complete about face that the conservative family values folks have had considering that they took great issue with Harvard law graduate Michelle Obama showing her beautiful arms in a sleeveless dress. They've come so far that they are now embracing a Slovenian college dropout soft core lesbian porn performer as the "ideal" woman that ALL of the daughters of the Grand Ole Party should emulate.
Are you not trusting the governmental agency who's in charge of making sure people pay what they owe? Do you think they're letting him break the law? I mean, he's either paying his proper taxes or he's not, do you think he's not paying what he owes?
Yep. And with a Democrat Governor in NY and a Democrat POTUS, If there was one penny assessed to Trump that he had left unpaid past a due date it would have come out during the campaign.
I agree that he is fully entitled to maintain Trump Tower as the family's alternate residence. I just think it's thoughtless to do so, both from the perspective of disruption to the community and the on-going cost to the taxpayer. First families cause an incredible amount of chaos wherever they go, which is something Trump needs to keep in mind now that he has been elected. I think it would be much better for Melania and Barron to move to the White House. It's the First Family's choice, however, as you pointed out, so if they want to stay, everybody will just have to suck it up and deal with it. As for the comment about the Obamas choosing not to return to Hyde Park because of the inconvenience it causes to their neighbors, it's something I read a long time ago when I grew curious about their previous life in Chicago. I cannot officially attribute it. If I run across it again, though, I'll update my post with a link.
There was another thread recently about the Obamas buying a place in Rancho Mirage, CA.
Given that purchase, I wonder if they will keep the Hyde Park/Chicago house long term?
They obviously have a lot of friends there in Chicago, but I don't think they have any close family there...unless Michelle's brother moved back there after his college coaching stint. IIRC, That house encompasses about 6,600 square feet, which would seem to be too big for Michelle's mother to live in by herself. I haven't heard if she is moving with them to their 'after White House DC rental', but I would assume so. I don't know if any of the details (such as...does it have a guest house?) have been made public re their Rancho Mirage purchase. Perhaps Mrs. Robinson will move with them to Rancho Mirage when they make that move after Sasha graduates from Sidwell Friends. A friend of mine and his wife spend most of the year at their place in Rancho Mirage, but some of the year at their place in the SF Bay Area. Their place in Rancho Mirage has a guest house, and my friend's mother-in-law has lived in that guest house year round for a bit over 20 years.
