Very true. The American news media declines coverage of black attacks on whites while overemphasizing attacks on blacks especially by police.

Agreed.

Illinois is #13 in terms of average cost per prisoner per year, not including pension benefits.

Governor has pledged to reduce the revolving door prison population by 25% by 2025.

Perhaps states should consider offshoring the most violent criminals to the lowest bidding counties.

No. And the fact that you feel the need to bring the President into this shows a very childish mindset.

The only way to reduce that cost is to make the prisons similar to what you see in 3rd world nations. Scary. And something else. People who smoked a joint shouldn't be in prison. True criminals should be there. That would reduce the prison population.

There's a pattern here. Probation for an armed robbery in 2009. Committed 2 armed robberies while on probation and resentenced to 6 years. Convicted of another theft crime in 2014 and sentenced to 2 years.

Sounds like he was recently released and on probation.

Incarceration is a revolving door according to Chicago PD.

The state controls sentencing and parole.

The recidivism rate is commendably low.

Only because the dead can't do that again. The question is this. Will it scare other thugs straight? That is the goal. Keep others from doing this again.

I thought about this. The USA has the highest murder rate of the developed, industrialized nations. The USA also executes people. One of 4 in the industrialized world currently doing so. We execute more than anyone else in the industrialized world. And yet, stuff like this happens.
