The state will do everything they can to cut funding to anything but running off PP.

They capped the number of students who could receive special ed services at 8.5%. Many school districts were left to just ignore kids who needed special ed. The state has increased funding for public schools, but the number of students has increased. So, the contribution per student has dropped.

About football stadiums. Texas has a crazy law for school funding. If a district's value increases beyond what the state declares, the district has to send the excess money to the state. They call it Robin Hood. Been around forever and declared illegal by all kinds of courts. The state does it anyway.

So, many richer districts give tax abatement to large industry or commercial property. The property owners then gift certain things to the district, like scoreboards, etc. The gifts are less than their taxes would have been. Everybody wins.

Texas might be "pro birth" but it's pretty obvious they sure do hate life a lot.
Maybe people should pay got their own stuff.

I wonder if posters such as this one would actually have the nerve to look at a poor disabled child face-to-face and tell them they don't "deserve" medical care and therapy.

It's difficult for those who refuse (if the shoe doesn't fit, don't squeal) to demand that their president quit dropping bombs on the heads of the children to condemn others.

Oh, they deserve it, but shouldn't their own country pay for it?

The "article" is not very clear on more than one thing - the $350 Million is one of them.
This has been going on for over a year - it's gone to court.

It's not $350 Million (they fail to say how many years of cuts they are talking about). It's a $50 Million dollar a year in Reductions of Payments to a Private Provider. They charge twice to three times as much as other States pay. They are sucking up the Medicaid budget and charging too much.

Medicaid is not being reduced, just the amount that will be paid for certain services .... and it will be monitored.
I'm only reading about ONE provider in all these stories going back 18 months .... I'm betting they are the "over-charger". These are not Doctors or Clinics - they are "Home Health Agencies" and they bill exorbitant rates.

A ten member bi-partisan commission investigated and voted 9 to 1 to cut $50 Million a year from the payments to providers. Then they held public hearings, then the providers sued and there was a stay on the cuts - the providers were unable to prove why their rates were 2-3 times the rates in other States for the same services. The cuts are moving forward (for 2 years) while the State monitors the situation.

Absolutely NONE of any of this has anything at all to do with Football or Football Stadiums.

I bet you could literally save a few children a year by cutting off your cell phone and donating that money each month to an organization that provides basic immunization shots. My guess is you won't do it because your phone is more important than children to you.

Yes payments to certain providers is being reduced but it's more than $50M/year. Besides the point is that there are already few services and more clinics may be closing, if these facilities were making such a large profit why are they closing. Also they are losing matching Medicaid funds

Quote:
Opponents have already delayed the cuts more than nine months beyond when they were originally scheduled to take effect, and the delay has reduced the potential savings lawmakers were chasing.

In that time, the state has forgone $20.6 million in savings, according to the health commission. That’s about 14 percent of the $150 million of state funding slashed by lawmakers from the therapy program's two-year budget. (Texas also forfeited roughly $200 million federal matching Medicaid funds as a result of the cuts.)

Under the state’s latest proposal, officials plan to cut $160 million of state and federal funding through the end of fiscal year 2017. They hope to make up some of the difference with another $135 million cut in fiscal year 2018, according to a notice on the Secretary of State’s website.

The state says it is “significantly” overpaying therapy providers compared to other states. An analysis by the commission found that Texas’ Medicaid program paid more generously than Medicaid programs in 11 other states for most services.
Texas therapists and home health agencies have criticized those claims, saying they are not apples to apples comparisons.

The OP was just pointing out that some school districts have the money to build $60M football stadiums at the same time the state is cutting funding for health care, two different situations but misguided priorities.
