Truth be told, market forces (not Trump) control the actual value of both. I know lots of millionaires who became thousandaires in 2008 - through no act of their own. Most IRAs for teachers, cops, firefighters, union members, and independents have stock as a portion of their portfolios. Hardly the top 10%.

Your last sentence is pure Marxist-Leninist pablum. Please Google "Fall of the Soviet Union..."
Right, supply and demand. Right, I forgot how 'hard work' made Carlos Slim and lazy was the kindergarten teacher. But You know how to measure rich. It's assets. You know the game is so stacked against the average person a universal income has been floated in some circles. Lenin's wet dream, but not over there - here in the US of A.

Okay let's do this. Take 50% of what Trump proposes for infrastructure and give every American family $100K (btw I actually have no idea if that math works, but work with me ok).

Guess what, the 1%, 10%, 20%, 30% will probably be richer in a year because they would have been smart with the $. The others will be just as poor or even more poor.

At least it staves off rebellion for another year, though.

The 1%. 10% are naturally getting richer. The majority of them live below their means so what they don't use is invested and compounded. Thus they end up with more $.

Although, some of what they invest in loses money as a number of them invest in start-ups that don't make it, but did employ people for a time. Have you seen Shark Tank?!? Those evil 1%s have the nerve to try to help some people get moving in the right direction.

Ugh

cd :O)

Trump didn't create this, but when he ran for president he implicitly took on the task to "fix" it. He can't solve it, nor could Obama. The only way the world has dealt with this issue up to our present age, is violence to re allocate wealth. It's just a brute fact.
What's he supposed to run on... is his campaign about throwing up his hands and say "I don't know"?

You want to fix things - start with yourself and go from there to the people you have influence over. Be honest about the problems and the solutions. Realize it's going to take some years to get going in the right direction again.

I'm conservative - but I was raked over the coals for suggesting ObamaCare should be fixed instead of repealed with no plan on the horizon. We can't simply hit the reset button and go back to what was. The system is simply too big. Maybe Trump's people can figure something out - I hope so, but I am not seeing it now.

The theme of this thread, though, is that inequality is growing. Trumps stock market win will not help main street. And we have some evidence that main street's only way back to equality is through major conflict.

Since we know all of that, what can you do?

And whose fault is that? Trump's? If some people are stupid enough to kill themselves with opiods fine. Let them. What the hell are they contributing to society anyway. Most likely they steal and rob to get money for their next fix. Obviously, their children should be taken away from them. Are we supposed to feel sorry for the dregs of society?

I spelled some of it out in my other post.

I'm black. First one in my family to graduate college... I'm talking the whole family tree. My niece has her doctor of jurisprudence and is making a triple digit salary in California (probably slightly above minimum wage out there) - she just turned 30. My son just graduated college with honors with a double major - and he is supporting himself at 22. We are changing the destiny of our family tree.

There's a lady at our church - single mom, black, 4 boys. Oldest graduated college and is working as a teacher. Second is looking to become a police officer. Third is in college. Obviously it has not been easy... lots of prayer... lots of support from the men at church.

You have to do the right things day after day. There are no short cuts. We have more control over our circumstances right now - as long as we do not give our freedom away.

I'm done for awhile on the soapbox...

Looks like an Obama Socialist has joined CD. At least he's not blamed it all on white men.

Yes and blacks are rising. That much is true. Whites on the other hand...

There's no substitute for hard work. Ok, let's get that out of the way. However, hard work in Bangladesh and hard work in NYC yield two different outcomes. Hard work knowing Carlos Slim is not the same outcome as hard work knowing Police officer Carlos Slim.

Part of our nation has seen hardwork not amount to much, they've given up, and we see the results. Black people are going to be key in preventing upheavel because we can all see the rise out of poverty for many.
