It would actually be very difficult to sell any or all of Trump's businesses. It's a little wrinkle in the proceedings I don't think he anticipated, because he didn't expect to win. But to sell them, he'd have to convince someone with a lot of money, that the businesses were worth something. And that would unavoidably lead to the public realization that they aren't actually worth much at all, if their debts and liabilities are taken into account. He's going to be exposed in one more dimension of his fraud. His refusal to reveal his tax returns, is another way he has delayed exposing his shaky financial status. He's going to keep surfing along, on this big wave, as long as he can. But the truth will have to emerge and only his indoctrinated cult members will stand by him. The fun and glory might even crash on the beach, before the Inauguration.
Basically, Mr. Trump's finances are based on a house of cards business model. Take how the licensing deals work, here is an example:
Quote:
...The Trump International Golf Club in Puerto Rico boasts lush tropical grandeur, breathtaking ocean views and a PGA-caliber course offering players an “incomparable touch of Trump.”
But in recent years the resort has struggled, taking on tens of millions of dollars in debt. Last week, it filed for bankruptcy. The failure threatens to cost the island’s taxpayers, as the project was financed with millions in government-backed bonds. Its 90 or so employees face an uncertain future.
Yet for Donald Trump, the deal was a total winner.
He put no money down but took a cut of the annual revenue — mostly for allowing the resort to bear his name.
“We made many millions of dollars on it but never invested a dime,” said Trump’s son Eric, an executive in the Trump Organization. ...
When there are too many failed businesses bearing his name (along with paying dearly for the licenses to do so), the 'brand' or 'name' or 'license' loses value.
BTW, are presidents required to release their yearly tax returns or is this more like standard procedure?
Presidential candidates are required to file financial disclosure forms.
"The Sunlight Foundation has urged Congress to require presidential candidates to disclose their tax returns.
Why are tax returns such a big deal?
We believe tax returns, when considered in conjunction with financial disclosure forms, help paint a fuller picture of the candidate’s financial dealings. It’s a snapshot of their financial positions and interests. For more than four decades, presidential candidates have seemed to agree with our perspective, and every candidate since Carter has released tax returns voluntarily to the public.
What do we glean from these separate pieces of information?"
Quote:
...From tax returns we learn:
Yearly income of the candidate
How much the candidate paid in taxes and the tax rate
What deductions and tax credits claimed
Real estate taxes and abatements
Investments
How much the candidate gave to charity (which could shed light on their values and priorities)
To whom the candidate owes money
Who are the candidates in business with and the financial positions of those companies (whether they have had gains or losses)
May indicate if money is being held offshore
On the financial disclosure forms:
Outside Income
Gifts
Assets/property owned
Specific investments/trusts
Possible conflicts of interest
Certain transactions/agreements made with businesses and people
Positions held at different companies outside of the government

This isn't the article I remember reading but is similar in info---
Basically the idea is that Trump didn't even provide an accurate and complete CAMPAIGN financial filing document---
He left many sections just blank, saying they did not apply to him when closer investigation proves he did need to provide the information--he just didn't want to disclose what would have given insight into his dealings and left him open to questions about the basic information the form requires....
He never should have been allowed to become a candidate with such a shoddy and incomplete offering--
He should have been held accountable to the law--weak as it might be--and made to completely provide the information...
If he had, research would have shown many areas with conflict of interest and the misleading picture of his business interests from the beginning of the campaign process----
Trump avoid all that by just not answering the questions on the form--
Typical behavior for him---if you don't want to do it or are threatened by it---then ignore what you don't want to do...
And he was allowed to get away with not doing what other candidates did....
The election committee that accepted that begun document maybe looked the other way because of THEIR personal, political interests....
Would be nice to know more about the people who were willing to ignore such glaring holes in his documentation for someone who is such a wealthy, prolific business icon...

Very good summary/analysis of the situation, thanks & respect. Some Americans seem indifferent or apathetic to the evidence, as they are to the facts when they puncture holes in the mythological narratives they are forced to make half-hearted attempts to inflate about the President-elect.
Many of the issues you point out here are the same issues that NYS AG Schneiderman revealed during his investigation of Trump Foundation in NY. Which is why he/it can no longer operate in NY.
You are entitled to your opinions, but not your facts.
You are confused about who used charitable donations for their own use.
Trump is the one who used charitable donations for his own use. He paid a $2,500 fine for using Trump Foundation money to bribe the Florida AG. He also used money from this fund to buy a portrait and other items for his personal use, and also to get himself out of some legal troubles.
Investigations are on-going.
And that is why he is trying to close his charitable foundation based in NY that is under investigation by the NYAG---
He he afraid that illegal activities will come to light that are MORE serious than his wife buying his portrait with charity funds...
He has used that money to pay business debts for his various entities---including fines at MarALago...
He has MADE charitable contributions to borderline political groups--NOT an allowed donation
HE likely has taken IRS credit for money donated by others on his OWN tax return--that is a FEDERAL offense and could--depending on the amount of the total illegal monies--become a felony---
That IS an impeachable offense...
Trump adding to his corruption aura by continuing discussion with Indonesia for resort building deal...
Earlier article during campaign re his Indonesian deal https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.rev...relations/amp/
This one includes insight into why Icahn has recently become a "trusted advisor": he is major investor in mining company involved in this political deal...
And these are NEW projects
Something else Trump promised he would not undertake (new deals) during his campaign--
Another promuse bites the dust!!!
From the second artivle: Amanda Miller, the Trump Organization spokeswoman, said of the two Indonesian projects, “Construction is well underway and will proceed as planned.”
In fact, construction has started only on a golf course and toll road as part of the Lido Lakes resort in West Java. Separating the enterprise from politics might also be difficult because Hary’s MNC Group is building the road to the site as part of a government highway project.
On Wednesday, Trump accused the news media of exaggerating any potential conflicts presented by his business holdings.
“It’s not a big deal; you people are making it a big deal, the business,” Trump said on the steps of his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, where he was spending the holidays. “They all knew I had big business all over the place.”
Two of the Indonesians involved in these desls are involved in politics or plan to run for ofgice--
So it is certainly possible two political leaders could be budiness partners in near future-/
It is a big deal, Donald...
And smacks of corruption on many levels...

Trump will no longer be part of the Trump businesses, so there is no conflict of interest.
