Can someone explain in layman's speak what Obama did here?
The resolution condemned Israel's continued construction of settlements in the West Bank, the US vetoed a similar resolution in 2011. They could have vetoed this resolution but they chose to abstain. I believe 15 nations approved the resolution including Russia, China. Israel's construction in the west bank has been criticized by presidents going back decades, the continued growth basically renders a two state solution impossible.
The simple solution would be for Israel to just halt construction, they have ignore the US and the entire world. Israel will just ignore the resolution and continue as they always have.

Israel has frozen construction a few times, under the Obama Administration, already in an attempt to get the Palestinian Authority (Abbas) to start talks. Yet Abbas aborted them all. Why should Israel listen to a resolution when their counterpart refuses to do anything in return? No matter what Israel does, Abbas will create a new item for Israel not to do.

He just allowed the UN, by abstention, to make it an international crime for Jews to live in Jerusalem. He has always wanted to hurt Israel; he lied to APAC.
Jews who are traditionally Democrats were just spit on after being staunch supporters of this lying wolf.
