This country was founded by God fearing men. If anyone does not like that, may the LORD forgive them. Like it or not, all of our precious cash we carry in our wallets says it also.
And by that, the phrase "in god we trust" is a constant reminder that our natural rights and liberties as Americans are ours from birth, they are god given, not something man's laws can simply take away with the stroke of a pen.
To the Religious Right, "religious freedom" means the right to impose conservative Christian values on the nation by force of law. They also want the "freedom" to discriminate against all non conservative Christians.
Wrong, when in 250 years has Christian values ever been crammed down your throat, give it up!
I'm an atheist who voted for Trump. All the religion and God references didn't bother me. At all. Part of it is tradition for inaugurations going back 240 years (which is important), part is a recognition of the Christian founding of the country, and part is acknowledgement and acceptance that the majority of American citizens hold deeply held Christian beliefs.
I don't take it personally or think of it as an insult (although the separation of church and state seems to fall by the wayside out of convenience and tradition on occasion). "All this religion thrown in the faces of everyone" is just a reason to feel aggrieved. For those who don't "believe" it shouldn't be that important to be upset with those who do.
Great inauguration. An extraordinary spectacle that always represents well to the nation and the rest of the world, how a peaceful transfer of power occurs in this extraordinary country. Well done America.
