I get that folks like to bend the truth, but this sort of post where people just lie should not be tolerated here.

It is not as if the poster was confused, the bill clearly states who introduced it and who supported it. Maybe mods need to start limiting account where the poster is purposely out right lying ....

The US is one of 6 countries with veto power. If the UN passes anything that harms the US, it did so with US approval. The Ambassador to the UN is a cabinet position in the executive office, which must be approved by the Senate. If you do not feel the Ambassador is doing a good job, consider who you voted for and see if they approved of the person in position. And of course, while the position is theoretically autonomous, they certainly would be reporting to the president and often acting on their behalf.

So a republican wants to shift the USA to isolation and a pre ww I state. Well done republicans, you want to give up our veto power and let Russia and China determine the future.....

What complete fools.... . The republicans would throw the nation under a bus just to juice their support amongst hardcore GOPs fans....

LOL

United Nations was formed after WWII.

Maybe you confuse it with the League of Nations which failed.

Never mind.

The proposed “American Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2017” is sponsored by Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL). It was introduced in the House on Jan. 3 and referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, according to the Congress website.

The bill proposes that the United States terminate its membership in the UN, that the UN removes its headquarters from the US, and that the US stops participating in the World Health Organization. Read the full bill here.

well, it wont go anywhere.

It defunds it, but it doesn't actually get rid of the UN site. U.S. Mission to the United Nations is not the same as the United Nations Headquarters. But if we're lucky, they'll just move to another country who wants to be their deep pocket for all the expenses the headquarters create to a hosting city/country.

The UN have tarnished their own name in many ways, like constant harassment of Israel, but apart from the political stuff, they do have some programs which help people around the world (like UNICEF).
