WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House vowed on Sunday to fight the news media “tooth and nail” over what it sees as unfair attacks, with a top adviser saying the Trump administration had presented “alternative facts” to counter low inauguration crowd estimates.

On his first full day as president, Trump said he had a “running war” with the media and accused journalists of underestimating the number of people who turned out Friday for his swearing-in.
Reince Priebus: White House Will Fight Media 'Tooth And Nail' Over Trump Coverage | The Huffington Post

Seems like a really poor use of their time, but what do i know!

The media's suspicion of The Donald is based on a long history of his being unethical, and a short term history of lying about just about everything.

I give you "alternative facts" by way of example.

It's a new era. The Donald had a chance to work with the media, but he chose a different path. Now, when he needs them, they will look the other way, in suspicion that they are being played.

The media will go back to old fashioned fact digging. Finding the information from the original source, and going with it. The president will be blind sided as the stories roll out. Rather than being a part of the news, he will get it when everyone else gets it. And he won't be happy.

But its also dangerous. They want to control the media and the message that's being put out.

The actual message they need to worry about are the statistics on jobs, unemployment and GDP growth.

Controlling the media. Totally unconstitutional. You want North Korea? This is how it starts.

They will lose their press credentials and access to this administration. There is no law that the media has to be given access.

Especially since he's fatally pissed off the entire United States Intelligence Services.

When a dictator takes control, one of their first orders of business is to marginalize and take over control of the nation's media sources. This insures that the only truth released to the nation is the truth the dictator and his minions want the people to hear. Also, all opposing opinions and facts are immediately demonized as being false and a direct threat to the good order of the country.

A perfect example of this is the crowd size at Trump's inauguration.
First the dictator declares that the crowd is the largest crowd for a presidential inauguration in history.
Second he tells his spokespeople to go out and publicly repeat it.
Third, When the press show pictures and irrefutable proof that his statement is false, he declare the press the enemy and claims they are deliberately attacking him to destroy him and the country.
Forth. Use the incident to declare a new closed relationship with the press corps because of their attacks on dear leader's truths.
Fifth: Objective achieved. No more press conferences where the press can question the administration directly about issues and zero transparency of the dictator's actions to the general public.
All that's left is to appoint a lot of military generals to top positions. No dictator has ever lost the country when they have the generals and military in their pocket.
Total control is achieved by the dictator, with no pushback from the media or the people being acceptable or possible.

This is standard policy in every dictatorship in the world. Past, future and most importantly, present.

Problem is, the media just doesn't know what to do. The are caught in the same loop that ran throughout the Presidential campaign:

Trump says something outrageous and false. The media rush to cover it, saying in effect "Can you believe what Trump just said?"
Trump's supporters eat it up. They want more. The more outrageous the better. The more the media covers it, the more they are convinced that Trump is not treated fairly. Facts don't matter. Trump plays the media like a fiddle to rev up his base.

His goal is to de-legitimize the press to the point where no one believes anything but the state sanctioned propaganda his administration puts out. North Korea, here we come.

I sincerely hope there is still enough real media left out there to not be intimidated by these strong-armed attempts to stifle and control the press. That is, if they aren't imprisoned for daring to report things that the emperor doesn't like.

We are entering a very dark and dangerous era here. But on the plus side, there is so much access to news that wasn't available 30 years ago, and as we saw on Saturday, there are millions of people plugged in now who weren't before. Let's hope activism is enough to overcome the attempt to drown out and bury the truth with their own "alternate facts."

EVery premier needs the media, Putin could not control his so he closed them down, put them in prison and runs the media himself now....

So if even the Russians cant "force" their press to submit I don't see how trump will.

I sure hope Trump continues his pettiness.
