In 2016, 8300 guns were confiscated, mostly in the 5/25 Police Districts where " the carnage" occurs.

State Minimum Sentencing laws and Parole criteria are lax as it relates to gun crimes, compared to states like NY. The Governor seeks to reduce the prison population by 25% and so it has become a revolving door for criminals.

Could you use a broader brush?

Most of " the carnage" involves people with gang affiliations.
Not likely any of them are registered voters.

Trump, fed up with Chicago 'carnage,' threatens to send Feds
Sending in the feds, how? That could be code for martial law.

There's this element in all races who do not value life.
Obama's DoJ concluded their one year review of Chicago's legacy Police profiling, brutality and shootings of unarmed black teens/ men, late last year. It has not mattered who was Mayor or Police Superintendent. The report was blistering.

Having said this, the number of Police shootings of unarmed people pale in comparison to the ongoing carnage going on in 5 out of 25 districts whereby black civilians are shooting black civilians. The majority of these incidents are never cleared because the people in these neighborhoods tend not to talk. Sometimes it's fear of gang retaliation and sometimes people protect their own.

When a case is cleared, meaning someone is charged, the shootings are more often than not, attributed to interpersonal conflicts between 2 people. Social media exacerbates these conflicts. In some cases it comes down to " making eyes". Like toddlers in a sand box who become agitated because their playmate was "looking at them", some of these cognitively impaired teens/ adults in certain districts often have and use a gun to resolve silly conflicts.

And they are notoriously bad shots and sometimes wound or kill an unintended victim.

What idea?

No one, other than anonymous posters on Internet forums and some bloggers, mentioned military?

People are not rioting in the streets in these 5/25 districts where the majority of carnage is occurring. There would be no basis for martial law/ restricting the freedom of movement by all people.

Get a grip.

That's plain silly. No adult would ever consider drivel from the mouth of an entertainer and known liar to be fact....or, even in the rare case of facts and follow through, it would only be the RESULTS that mattered.

Just finished a book about Chicago in the 20's. Run by Republican. Murder Capital of the country and wickedest place in the US (as they said). All the gangster killings, machine gunning, etc.

Let's not act as if this thing started yesterday.
Chicago has a long, long history of violence. It has not mattered who was mayor of Superintendent of Police.

Due to geography and transportation, Chicago was a hub of illegal trafficking of alcohol during Proibition. It had more than it's fair share of Mafia.

Due to geography and transportation, Chicago is a hub of illegal trafficking of narcotics, with an emphasis on Heroin. Mexican Cartels are responsible for trafficking. Street gangs are the low men on the totem poll and control the retail distribution.

Congress/ Trump are not going to end The War on Drugs.

A cognitively impaired, emotionally broken , 20 year old with a rap sheet, zero marketable skills and zero impulse control has no shot at gainful employment. He does not reasonably expect to live to see his 25 th birthday. Disputes are resolved with gunfire.

No system is going to reparent a hood rat.

Chicago has the 3rd highest GDP of any city in the US.

Chicago has the 3rd highest number of hotel rooms of any city in the US, after Las Vegas and Orlando. The average room rate is $250/ night. Chicago has three 5 star hotels including Trump Tower.

Chicago had 55 million overnight visitors in 2016. Likely 99.9999% of these visitors do not go near the 5/25 Police Districts where the majority of carnage occurs. They have no reason to do so.

55 million overnight visitors in 2016 who spent and average hotel room rate of $250/ night, would disagree with you, Scotty.

The long time suburban Fortume 500 are abandoning their massive single tenant office parks and relocating their operations in Chicago. They are doing so in part to recruit top millenial talent who prefer an urban lifestyle and, for now, do not embrace Leave it to Beaverville.

BLM is another racist hate group, little different than the KKK. Well, they are different-BLM has been much more violent than the KKK in the last few years.

Ignore them and go directly to the black communities with the message. The communities where individuals are being shot and killed by the very people that BLM protects, on a daily basis. Bring the message to those impacted by the killings.

I guess since you don't have to go to those areas you don't care about the people being killed there?
Who is opposed to making it safer for the people who choose to live in the crime ridden areas?

Last week I posted on another thread about the sensationalized murder of Dwyane Wade's cousin.

She had 3 children and a new born infant. She was single, unemployed and attending Early Childhood Development classes, code speak for becoming a licenced daycare provider/ worker. I do not think it's too much of a stretch to assume she was the beneficiary of housing vouchers and welfare given the number of children and unemployment status.

That housing voucher is good anywhere in Chicago. She chose an apartment on the most violent block in the most violent Police District and did so because of the community where everyone knows your name, blah, blah, blah.

In the early afternoon she packed her infant into a stroller and headed off to the local school to register her other children. Presumably a family member or neighbor was watching her children. In doing so, she was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

An Uber driver was outside his car waiting for a return trip. He was spotted by a young black man who did not like the look of the driver and quickly contacted his brother who came running with a gun. The 2 brothers chased the Uber driver down the street, shooting. They missed their target and instead plugged the mom pushing a stroller with bullets. It was over in an instant.

More than enough very obvious video cameras on the block captured the brothers running with a gun. Both have gang affiliations, are convicted felons and were apprehended. One was recently paroled and his ankle monitoring device was off so he could seek work.

The brothers were asked why they pursued and were firing at the Uber driver. They both said they did not know. Believe them. They did not know. It's an understatement to say these 2 had zero impulse control.

I would love the opportunity to get to get into the heads of the two young adult brothers. We're they born warped? Raised by wolves? Removed from their home due to parental neglect and/ or drug addiction and/ or violence? Out on the streets as look outs at age 5? Embraced gangs because of influence from their bio father or uncle? Or something else?

What was the path that landed them in the street chasing and firing at a stranger, for no reason.

There is no fixing hood rat and no was to reasonably predict the next crime.
