Back when Obama was trying to implement Obamacare, everyone was against it and there were town halls where people were losing it. Now Trump is trying to repeal AND REPLACE, not even REPEAL and not replace, yet everyone, even republicans seem to be against it. And now there are town halls with people losing it to keep it in place. WTF is wrong with people? They don't want to get rid of something that they said they didn't want 5 years ago. I'm convinced that most people aren't smart enough to vote.
I thought the people who want(ed) it and the people who want to repeal it are two different sets of people, with the people who want to repeal it not wanting to pay for the people who want it.
What I find ironic is that repeal (without replacement) flips the income transfers - with repeal, the uninsured (and every working taxpayer without employer-paid insurance) will, through the tax code, subsidize those with employer-paid coverage.
I think many people believed Trump (or were willing to wait-and-see) when he said his replacement would be cheaper, better, etc. They're complaining now because the congressional proposal is clearly worse than the ACA.
Trying to stop it before it was implemented is different. It is very difficult to take away programs once they have helped people, even if they are not a good idea.

The town hall meetings are staged events by the DNC, you can't take they seriously.
I find it ironic that the House Freedom Caucus wants a complete repeal of Obamacare but will STOP the repeal of Obamacare if everything is not completely reversed... essentially, they are saying they are trying to save Obamacare by demanding its complete repeal... they don't make any sense...
Even more insane: the ACA was originally drafted by the Heritage Foundation and proposed by Mitt Romney. Now Republicans are trying to save their a**** by repealing something that was originally their idea; The only reason they opposed it was because Obama picked it up.
Basically they have to go back to free market or develop single payer - neither of which are popular. So good luck to Paul Ryan, they have royally screwed themselves.

There is an ideological divide in the Republican Party. The Freedom Caucus are ideologues, and the 'establishment' Republicans less so. Those establishment Republicans think about the impact of ending Medicaid. They think about covering people through cost-shifting subsidies. They think about what the Senate will pass. Not so for the Freedom Caucus--at least, not yet.

There were 2 local townhalls in my area recently. It's a heavy GOP area. The DNC didn't stage the events. In fact, the GOP representatives sent email invitations to registered Republicans, inviting them to attend the townhalls, but the other constituents didn't get invitations. If you look at it this way, it was a RNC staged event, right?
I attended one of the townhalls. It will full of constituents from the local area. Most supported healthcare/ACA and many wanted a public option, they wanted preexisting conditions rules kept, no cuts to social security, they wanted an independent non-partisan investigation of Russia ties to Trump.
