This fight over Devos is so ridiculous. The state of American education has been in crisis for years and the Democrats have done nothing to change things for the better. If you look closely you will find many politicians are beholden to the NEA and other teachers' organizations. To illustrate the shallowness of their protest, look at the terrible schools in Chicago, Detroit and other major centers. The only thing the Democrats care about is the money and support that comes from the Teachers unions. I don't think it is possible for Devos to do a worse job than her predecessors. If fact, her new thinking will make things much better.
You are obviously not very well read on the reasons as to why she is so hugely unqualified. Why comment without being fully informed and well versed on the subject? What is the point of that?

Yadda yadda yadda
More grief from the left. Trump is unqualified, Devos is unqualified, they are all unqualified!
Funny thing about a President and cabinet, none of them have ever held those positions prior to being voted in and confirmed, respectively.
What qualifies you to make such determinations? Who is guiding such decisions for you?

The left are doing their best to prove the notion that to be a liberal is chronic insanity.

Why would anyone want to continue a process that has failed? Education in the US has increased in cost and decreased in effectiveness. That is failure. Repeating the same experiment and expecting different results is probably not completely understood by those who would do so. Your answer proves my point.

Do you realize that the "uproar over DeVos was because she is unqualified and had a terrible showing at the hearings? Did you watch or read about the hearing? If that had been a real and legitimate job interview, she wouldn't even get a call back (let alone a job offer).
Would you hire someone unqualified for the position if you were running a business?
You should know this was not a "liberal" or "democrat" thing. Plenty of people on the right are not thrilled about her, and some voted against her.
Specifics about her hearing. Many of her answers were not well thought through. She didn't seem to grasp many basic education concepts (such as the difference between "student proficiency" and "student growth"), and sometimes gave vague/hand-wavy answers to direct questions (kind of like what you do in an interview when you don't know the answer to a question and just want to get through the question...).
An editorial in the Detroit Free Press in December highlighted concerns in Michigan over her appointment.
"DeVos isn't an educator, or an education leader," it read. "She's not an expert in pedagogy or curriculum or school governance. In fact, she has no relevant credentials or experience for a job setting standards and guiding dollars for the nation's public schools.
"She is, in essence, a lobbyist - someone who has used her extraordinary wealth to influence the conversation about education reform, and to bend that conversation to her ideological convictions despite the dearth of evidence supporting them."
One of the two Republican senators who said they could not support Mrs DeVos, Susan Collins of Maine, said she was "concerned that Mrs DeVos' lack of experience with public schools will make it difficult for her to fully understand, identify and assist" challenges facing rural schools in particular.

In perhaps the most uncomfortable moment, she struggled to show she was familiar with the Individuals With Disabilities in Education Act (Idea), a federal law that requires public schools to make accommodations for disabled students.
The American Association of People with Disabilities said it was "very concerned" that she seemed "unfamiliar with the Idea and the protections it provides to students with disabilities".

One of the 2 school system you sited as a terrible example was under Devos's influence. If she couldn't improve her home state & made it worst. How can she handle the country?
It will be Detroit education all over the country
