SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY news)

In Mexico, senators are working to introduce a bill to stop buying corn from the United States and instead buy corn from Argentina and Brazil.

If passed, the bill could hurt American farmers, including in South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa.

Mexico bought $2.4 billion worth of corn from the U.S in 2015.

The grain is a staple in many Mexican foods, and the U.S. is the world's largest corn exporter.

Threats of a corn boycott are in response to President Donald Trump's tough stances on the border with Mexico and NAFTA.

Lisa Richardson from South Dakota Corn said farmers in the state are already struggling with low corn prices, and this bill could take a huge toll on them.

"At the end of the day, you drive across the state you're going to see piles of corn dotted everywhere," she said. "We have the largest carryover, 21.5 billion bushels of corn in this country, we simply need access to more markets, not less."

Kind of Ironic. The ones that voted for this disaster will be the most hurt from it. Oops!
MAGA indeed.
Failure to think it through.

Guess Mexico is sending a message to the Gringo that two can play at the game. As for corn farmers in South Dakota, Iowa, etc., those folks always vote against their own self interest. I guess they will have to pull themselves up by the bootstraps since Trump couldn't care less about them.

The way corn is set up is a disaster for everyone. It's basically economic terrorism against Mexico from our government.

Why do you think Americans are so fat? Cheap high fructose corn syrup. And the ethanol gas that was supposed to be so clean? Another fail.

Nafta needs to be renegotiated.

Good. At this point I hope the farmers who elected a madman to back out of NAFTA get their pain. I'm tired of feeling bad for those who continually vote against thier self interest at this point.

The cheap corn imports into Mexico have devastated Mexican corn farmers.
