A cult expert has compared Trump with Jim Jones. There are indeed erie parallels. Jim Jones created paranoia among his followers and they only believed what he said. Eventually Jim Jones convinced many of his followers to drink poisoned Kool aid in a mass suicide, however many were actually murdered.
I can totally see the parallels. No matter what Trump says, even if he outright lies, his supporters rush to defend him. He is completely aware of this and openly brags about it.
If you want to talk about a "cult" following ; look at many of the Hillary supporters who after the election turned to violent protests, destroying personal and business property, and trying to block traffic ( although the college student who tried on a CA freeway was whacked by a car going 65mph...haha made my day....wonder if she needs diapers now?

If we consider that a cult leader is just someone who actively works to get followers to agree with them uncritically, I don't think this 'honor' can be exclusively Trumps. He may be the most obvious example, but I didn't see Hillary doing a whole lot of work to get people to think critically.
