The Black Mesa Syndrome: Indian Lands, Black Gold

Larry Gibson, an Appalachian native, looking over the mountaintop removal of Kayford Mountain in West Virginia, and an aerial shot of the destruction at Black Mesa, the center of Navajo culture and spirituality.

The story these articles tell is now being replayed by Big Oil, who has finally made its way into the highest levels of the U.S. government.

I don't care which party you belong to, every American should be protesting this ongoing immoral destruction of our land, and insisting on investment in alternative energies and job training.

The environment is not exactly a Republican concern. Which is why it's funny that what is doing coal in is fracking.

If you didn't bother to read the articles, then you have no intelligent response to give. Not that I'm surprised. Most coal supporters who don't have to make the sacrifices these people do are too cowardly to read the truth. Gutless. Lack of manliness. Can't step up to the plate. No moral courage. You get the idea, yes?

Hey I'm with you on coal but his response was funny. Supporting the environment doesn't mean being a hyper-earnest prude.

That is what an active mine looks like, now show us some photos of reclaimed land 20 or 30 years later.

Here is the threshold you need to meet. It's 0 degrees out in the Northeast, cloudy, no wind and utilties are hitting record demad at 7AM. It's going to be like that for the next two weeks.

When you can explain how wind and solar will meet that demand we can have a discussion.
