Ah well that definition does not fit the realities of poverty particularly in the US.

Most people in the US who love below the poverty line, do so despite working. That isn't really helplessness.

well it starts with a floor. As it stands the USA has some of the worst poverty in the western world. We can fix it if we want, but it is really a question of finding enough people who care enough... until then it is band aids.

It absolutely is. I defined poverty a couple posts ago. Basically, it is the mental, psychological, and economical state of helplessness.

Birth control. There should be incentives for women in poverty to practice birth control. Women could receive a check if they get a regular monthly shot of depo provera or some other form of long-term birth control. As it stands, the government gives incentives for women in poverty to have more children, which only leads to more poverty.

Do away with money. Establish a world based off of sustainability and self sufficiency. Individuals thrive in a society as their skills and attributes are shown through their contribution to society. Goal of this society is to focus on advancement of technology, advancement of science, and exploration of space to improve quality of life.

3rd world countries have the worst problems with poverty and they have no social safety nets like we do. Their women crank out more babies than you can count out loud and faster than you can count 1 2 3. So, obviously, the social safety net that we have in place to help single moms is clearly not the cause for perpetual generational poverty.

This idea is already tried and failed horribly. Think of the various communist regimes that tried to forward this idea and how they failed spectacularly.

That's ...

The poor people in America are obese. Compare to most parts of the world, they are freaking RICH!

I'd define poverty as a state of people who cannot or won't earn enough money to support themselves. They either don't have the skills, won't/can't acquire the skills or both.

Are you trying to solve the world's problem, the America's, your state' or your problem? How about each one of us focus on ourselves and make sure that our children don't go in to poverty.

With that attitude, poverty is solved.

Women in poor countries have so many children because they don't have birth control. Government incentives to have more children are not the cause of poverty but they are a contributing factor.

In developed countries, the poorest people are generally of low intelligence. Those with low intelligence have children with low intelligence. If we want to stop generational poverty, then we need birth control for people in poverty.

Agreed. But how do we implement this without people screaming bloody eugenics?
