I love how CONS believe the GOP builds up the military to protect the U.S. from foreign threats. Its the biggest joke around.
You know why the GOP builds up the military? To avoid any kind of revolution on U.S. soil. If you look around the world you will see why this is true. What happens when you have large numbers of young men without jobs and women? They start trouble. They commit crimes. They form groups. And so on.
If you have too many young, poor, angry, rural males around to start trouble, you end up with a situation where they start forming militant groups to overthrow the government and/or the people in power. To avoid this, the U.S. Government created the biggest jobs program around called "The U.S. Military" to keep these people busy and possibly kill them off.
If young, poor men are over seas getting killed, they are not around to cause trouble locally in the U.S.

I agree this was a waste. Instead of creating a "jobs" program, maybe the government should have created a fathers program so these young, poor, and angry males could have had role models in their hood.
This way, they would have a much lower chance of being killed off by each other in cesspools like Chicago and Baltimore.
Fathers usually have time to teach their offspring things of value. Then again, if they are all in prison themselves, it's not gonna work....... Sounds like a problem that needs to be fixed within the culture.
The Commander In Chief never served a day. That makes him smart.
As a young man he had a 'bone spur', but he can't remember on which foot, and it apparently has never come back since he passed conscription age.
Good for him!
He's smart.

The military has long been for a few primary functions:
1) enrich defense contractors
2) make work program for kids from lower income households
3) minimize internal strife by having some external force to be united against
Calling it defense spending is laughable. It's a welfare program that breeds hatred for the United States around the world.
The money would be better spent on education, job training, building infrastructure, etc.
Not sure why you single out the GOP when it's clearly both sides. Especially recently with Obama and Hillary...definitely in favor of expanding the military.
But I think I agree on the rest. At least that's the mindset of the "elites", from what I've seen.

I'm talking more about rural hillbillies than urban ghetto youth. Its mostly the poor rural gun loving males that join the military to fight the "evil doers" over seas. Not a lot of inner city youth joining the military.
You don't seem to know much.
