Exactly this. Even though it only covers few percent of Musilm population, it is just pondering to his base and gloat about keeping his election promise. He should just continue doing extreme vetting and use his Homeland department to take care of it like Obama. I think, he is also going to issue EO to reduce number of visas for refugees.

And of course it's the same reason why Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are also not on the list. Because the US needs their backdoor cooperation in order to continue the ME wars.

If he just strengthened the vetting requirements no one would have cared, the issue was the fact that he placed a ban particularly on refugees. He comes up with these terms such as "extreme vetting" and that appeals to his constituency but without some details it is meaningless. The idea shouldn't be to halt immigration it should add a level of security particularly on Visas, but banning refugees from Syria is nonsense.
Most of the terrorists were home grown or came by way of Europe and other countries, that is why this makes even less sense. Evidently he stall hasn't been able to come up with a reason for the immediate ban, he asked the DIA and Homeland to come up with an excuse after the fact.
It will not make us any safer whatsoever, and is nothing more than Donny Con throwing a bone to his rabid right wing sycophants, while doing nothing to solve the problem. The process we currently have in place is more than sufficient to fully vet people coming from the countries on his thinly disguised muslim ban list.
