All these accusations all over the left side of the media begs the question from me, what's wrong with being friends with Russia? They're not the worst country of the there, I mean, we're friends with Saudi Arabia for crying out loud . The US and Russia we're friends before during the Civil War, the US and UK were enemies until WWI and now both countries are joined at the hip. So what's wrong with being friends with Russia? Who doesn't want us to be friendly with them? The British?

It is simply suicidal not to be friends with Russia. That does not mean that we have to rubber stamp everything Russia does. But Russia has a larger nuclear arsenal than the US and all out nuclear WWIII would make most of the Northern Hemisphere uninhabitable. It is in humanity's best interest to negotiate, instead of moving the hands of the Doomsday clock forward; lets try moving them backward: Doomsday Clock ticks closer to apocalypse and 1 person is to blame.

By the way, in that USA link; they blame Trump's careless rhetoric for advancing the hands of the 'clock'. It is funny that many think Trump is a Russian puppet while still thinking he will start WWIII!

Are you alleging the concept of MAD is no longer applicable? If so, WHY? What's changed that makes cuddling up with a country led by a KGB thug seem like a good idea?

It's related to money and politics. Traditionally, the defense industrial complex has profited from a confrontational relationship with Russia. Now the anti-Trumpsters are trying to drum up an adversarial relationship for political purposes. There's no reason we can't have at least shared interest objectives with the Russians

The libs loved (and even spied for) Russia when it was communist and Stalin was murdering innocent people by the tens of millions.

They hated the CIA because it was the spear point of "American imperialism."

Trump has done many amazing things.

One of the most amazing is that he has suddenly made the libs hate Russia and love the CIA!

Mad is the idea of killing yourself and all of your friends and family. That is MAD! There will always be areas of common ground and areas of disagreement. Do we see eye to eye with the Saudis? The only 'logical' position is to try to move the hands of the Domesday Clock back. I know that it is not a perfect solution - but it beats the alternative. There is no greater environmental damage to the Northern Hemisphere than all out nuclear war - it is not in humanity's best interest.

What you are basically saying is, that because you lost, everybody should die!

Not sure what this has to do with Britain, the US has it's own Foreign Policy.

Although as already pointed out, Russia is led by a Former KGB Thug who has diverted lots of funds in to his own accounts and who has any political opponents or interfering journalists assassinated.

Russian cellist says funds revealed in Panama Papers came from donations - Guardian

If you want to be friends with Putin's Russia then that's entirely up to the US and it's Government, we British did fall out with him Putin's Russia after Russian Agents poisoned Alexander Litvinenko with Polnium-210 in London in 2006, leaving a radiation trial across London. The Russians also refused Scotland Yards request in relation to questioning suspects Andrei Lugovoi and Dmitry Kovtun and refused an extraditon request.

Litvinenko's death was later followed by Billionare Putin critic Boris Berezovsky's death and numerous others. Putin response was to send nuclear capable bombers to fly over Britain.

Billionaire critic of Putin may have been murdered, rules coroner - Telegraph

Putin also enjoys placing spy ships off Western Countries coastlines and last year NATO warplanes had to scramble 800 times in relation to Russian Aircraft entering NATO Airspace, which is twice the number as the year before. Whilst Putin currently has vast Russian forces placed along European Borders.

Then you have all the controversy related to the influencing of western politics and cyber crime, indeed Putin is now setting up a new branch of the Russian Armed Forces which will focus solely on information warfare.

Russian hackers pose increasing threat to UK's national security, GCHQ chief warns | The Independent

Russia announces new branch of military to focus on information warfare amid hacking allegations | The Independent

The Russians look after their own interests, and if they can lull you in to a sense of false friendship and you allow them ever more influence then they will be delighted. At best we should try and have some form of dialogue and workable diplomatic relationship with Putin's Russia however a trusting close friendship is never going to be on the agenda.

Because Russia is a mentally unstable schoolyard bully.

Not maybe the worst out there, but certainly one of them.

No they weren't. The US and UK haven't been enemies in any way since the Webster-Ashburton Treaty.

The thing is that Russia doesn't recognise friends. It has enemies, vassals and useful idiots. Finnish foreign policy expert Charly Salonius-Pasternak compared the Russian foreign policy with a three-legged stool. One leg is appeasement, one is threats and the third economy. Russia raises or saws off one leg depending on the situation, but the point is to always keep the stool unbalanced. The only way to make the stool stable is total submission to Russian interests.

Russia has changed the borders in Europe by force for the first time since 1945, it has illegally annexed a part of a neighbour which borders it pledged to respect in the Budapest Treaty.
Russia engages in war crimes in Syria, bombing civilians and doesn't seem to give a damn.
Russia is a brutal kleptocratic dictatorship.
Russia has a terrible record concerning human rights.

Who would want to be friends with a that kind of country? Putin's advisor Sergey Markov has stated that the most russophobic countries in Europe are Finland, Sweden, Poland and the Baltic States. Wonder why? They all have experienced the true colours of that nation.

America has been invading and/or bombing countries right and left (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, Libya, Granada, Dominican Republic), fighting proxy wars in other countries (Nicaragua), using the CIA to try to overthrow foreign governments (South Vietnam, Iran, Chile, Cuba) since WW II, and has set itself up as the world policeman with at least 140 military bases all over the world.

But when Russia throws its weight around a little bit, we're supposed to be outraged.

Too funny.

Yes, America had its reasons for doing what it did.

So does Russia.
