Paul Ryan made it clear that he has zero understanding of what insurance as a concept is. Why anyone thinks he is qualified to put forward a plan is beyond me.

Since you understand insurance, what are you purposing when Obamacare fails this year?
We have been told we are not a christian nation..we are secular. All we have is a big bang theory. the consequence of that is darwinian. So let them get sick and die this is what liberals are working toward. althought dead voters vote democrat by a large margin, so dems win either way.
It wasn't a "liberal" I replied to. Yours was nothing more than a very poor attempt at deflection.
You are correct though, we are not a Christian nation and should quit trying to pretend we are.
He said that his 3 boys all had their tonsils removed and he couldn't get the health providers to price quote ahead of time, although he tried hard to get the price ahead of time. He didn't get the real price until the bills came out. The 3 surgeries were spaced 1 year apart, using the same hospital and same doctor, but the price varied for all 3 boys.
Later in Ryan's speech, he said his new health plan will give control to patients because they will be able to shop around and choose their health care based on price, because the patient will have 'skin in the game' (e.g. they'll be paying out of their own pocket for heathcare). Somehow, magically, the patients are going to get the prices ahead of time, although Ryan said he tried and couldn't.
This isn't the answer BUT this is an improvement on what we have. It's not magic. Is it magic when you go into a store and the prices of their items are listed?
It was interesting. Our dog went blind and we took her to one of the highest regarded veterinarian hospitals around (appx 2 hour drive) we were hoping it was just cataracts. We were treated better there than any regular hospital I had every been to. They sat down and explained what they were looking for, the options and the EXACT cost of each procedure.
Why is that controversial with you? As it turned out it was a genetic thing and there was nothing they could do.

Something that will get through Congress?
Obama care is not failing. It can be improved, just like pretty much anything but Paul Ryan doesn't know what insurance is and is lying when he says Obamacare is failing because the only constituency he worries about are the rich.
But of course I cannot propose some plan the Greedy Only-me Party wants because I think we should have universal coverage

You think we should have universal coverage but will continue to support the system that does not provide that. No, Obamacare can not be fixed. To completely change the system which is what we need is not simply "fixing" Obamacare.

Not most, probably more like half of working Americans. The median wage earner in the US makes $13/hr, and as someone who had a job paying that a few years ago, there was no employer provided insurance.

People live longer than they did 100 years ago. The poor should be happy they live longer and have superior healthcare than did 100 years ago, but they shouldn't expect the same quality as the richer citizens. Even in socialist countries that theoretically can provide healthcare coverage to all, there is a long waiting list. A wealthier person can afford better healthcare coverage, which provide superior healthcare. Essentially, what the poor want is equal access to healthcare that is comparable to the middle, upper, and rich class. That will probably never happen. Historically that has never happened.
By quality of healthcare, I'm referring to the speed, experience of doctors, access to medicine, specialist, and treatment. My father knew a person who was a drunk and would never spend any of his money on healthcare and instead relied on government healthcare. When his wife got sick, he took her to the doctor ,but the doctors took too long to properly diagnostic her condition. She died in the hospital. The government healthcare system requires, if I'm not mistake, for patients to be tested and confirmed results before a specialist is recommended. She died while being tested. This man wife would probably had been saved had the doctors were more experience and more liberal on recommending a specialist instead of following procedures. If you pay out your own pocket things are done quickly. Government healthcare isn't very good. In some socialist governments that provide healthcare people have to wait years to get an operation. I'm certain people die while waiting for an operation.
You can't have it all. The government will eventually have to reduce welfare, military, government spending, or find a way to reduce healthcare cost in order to provide quality healthcare. It does no good if people are given free healthcare that requires the patient to wait obscene amount of time before treatment.
I don't think the current GOP proposal isn't anymore better than obamacare. Merely changes the benefactors from poor and seniors to young healthy workers.
Do you realize that you basically just argued against insurance altogether?
