Caterpillar stopped making big rig engines after 2010, with the exception of vocational off highway trucks (i.e. logging, oil field etc). And that was a big market for them, Cummins took their market share after they bowed out

No it wasn't a big market, it was a tiny market, and furthermore, they were not in the on highway market for engines for very long. They are into marine, diesel and off highway engines, none of which are big markets for them.

FWIW, Cat remains a Fortune 50 company.
