Just arm ships crews and have them cut the pirates to pieces when they attack. I don't know why they make everything so difficult and stupid.
Fear of lawsuits.

In the world of some folks on here, entire societies can be painted by their few bad apples.

If that we're really the case then "Americans" could be termed a mix of crips, bloods and the KKK.

Aren't the Chinese in Djibouti now. They should deal with this.

But this thread title, haha.

Both of those had a ton of political downside for him, but he did what needed to be done.
I agree with a lot of your posts, but not here.

No way should the US taxpayers be paying to have our navy act as security for corporate shipping firms. If those millionaires want protection, they should hire private security contractors.

Bin Laden, you believe that story? Bin Laden was dying of kidney failure long before the big raid. That aside, it does not fit our M.O. Remember when they got Saddam, his sons, Khadaffi? Pics, pics and more pics to show the American public just what bad-asses we are. We get Bin Laden & we dump his body at sea, with not a single pic or documentation top show the American public?

Shipping companies hire 3rd world crews, don't expect them to hire security at a pay rate that gets skill/professionalism and is enough to justify risking one's life.

Most Somali pirates are fishermen - who's revenues and catches are way down because of fishing/poaching off their coast by other countries.

The Somalis can simply assassinate the Chinese in Djibouti in retaliation.

The Chinese should stay out of this one.

Correct. Protecting shipping isn't a military matter. If it is, then I want a steep discount on all goods delivered by ships.

Don't get all geeked up over Hollywood movies. Somalis are still the Gulf of Aden champs, and no one navigates it better than them. As long as there's money in piracy, they'll provide the region's top pirates. That's what poverty and chaos does to people.

It's a risky business...and some pirates will die or be captured. But apparently, the loot is worth the risk.

.
In short, Somali life is cheaper than the boat they ride in and the weapons they carry.

If the warlord thinks it's worth a try...he'll risk his boat and guns and whatever worthless peons to try to get a score.

Say what? Protecting shipping has been a historical impetus of military involvement back thousands of years.
