All it takes is one state to get it going and to make it work. Once that happens, people all over the country will look at that place and demand the same thing.

Do you have problems deciding what vehicle to buy? Do all the brands, types and options confuse you?
Nope! But then I do not equate the need for stem cell chemotherapy to 20" chrome alloy wheels on a new pick-up truck. Especially given I can continue to live quite fine without the big wheels but no so good if my insurance provider refuses payment for Autologous Stem Cell Chemo as happened to a member of my golf foursome in Florida.
They firstly denied coverage outright then after (time wasted) Moffitt Center Specialists in Tampa provided more information they argued the efficacy and appropriate nature of the suggested treatment (more time wasted) while the Moffitt center attempted to arrange other means of payment (tick-tock) for the required treatment that his multiple specialists agreed had the best chance for success.
All that wasted time eventually closed the door.......we miss him greatly.
Shame on you for suggesting the only difference being the ability to navigate the fine print in a life necessity insurance coverage to ticking off the boxes on a purchase order for a new vehicle.
Your thinking will forever keep you behind the other first world nations as you surely deserve.
It's almost impossible to do at a state level because everyone who is ill would move there. Also, private insurance companies are generally for-profit publicly traded companies that have Wall Street to answer to.
Kaiser, which is non-profit, does a decent job in its market.

Yes, behind several miles down the road to serfdom. If you cannot read fine print buy stronger reading glasses. It could save your life.

At one point 98% of Hawaii's citizens were insured. That has since dropped. Increased immigration from the health insurance deprived is not given as the reason for that drop from even the most liberal sources.
Why was not Medicare fully funded in the Jan 2009 to Jan 2011 period?
Oh my, there you are way down the list of "countries with the most individual freedoms" from a bunch of those providing universal or single payer healthcare. By any definition of the word "serfdom", having less individual freedom would equate to you already being more of a serf than those others....er....wouldn't it?
I guess you assumed I couldn't read when I described the part where I didn't have to as regards healthcare coverage as I'm of the favoured ones who are covered from birth. I'm free to not have to even consider the prospect of payment for healthcare.
Intelligence in choosing wisely your system of healthcare provision will ultimately save more lives than how much you can afford to pay some shylock to intervene on your behalf. My eyeglasses are covered for $500.00 every two years so discerning the written word is not a problem in any case.
We choose to think that giving a third party, with nothing more than a profit motive as their incentive, the right to make life altering decisions on your behalf as being akin to slavery, penury, or in your typical eloquence a freak'n serf.
