The thread title says it all. Affirmative action was created to discredit minority groups specifically black by creating the loose association of inferiority among black people. Notice how everything the government does invariably leads to an aggregate result of blacks being inferior.

Markets are based on confidence and the ability to prove yourself and perform. When someone is given an advantage they will be seen as undeserving and unfit. This leads to an overall perception of inferiority among the masses.

Affirmative action is a plot to discredit black people. If you look at it, there is no way possible it could work. Black people can succeed without the help of government. As the government main objective has been to try to show that black people are inferior.

It's like how the generation that gave out participation trophies like candy are now using those trophies to discredit the generation that received them.

Black people politics are soooo 2016. We've moved on to the flavor of the month. Transsexuals in locker rooms.

Sorry this statement doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Totally agree. In the same way, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was founded by people who didn't think that colored people were advanced. Maybe they were still living in the Stone Age?

It depends on which definition of "Affirmative Action" you are speaking about. The early version of "Affirmative Action" was part of the Civil Rights Movement to simply remove segregation on colleges provided that the black students could gain admission with legitimate credentials. The quota system was not part of the original form of "Affirmative Action".

The modern form of "Affirmative Action" with the quota system and reduction of merits can be traced back to President Nixon. And yes, it was a racist policy. It was a political ploy meant to ostensibly assuage the concerns of black citizens struggling with unemployment and racism which led to sociological unrest and riots. The true motive of Nixon's "Affirmative Action" was social control to stop inner city riots. Nixon was indeed racist. This article summarizes the historical reality nicely.
Affirmative action: It’s time for liberals to admit it isn’t working.

Ironically, modern Republicans who try to stop "Affirmative Action" are often accused of being racist. A good example is the "Affirmative Action Bake Sale" used by College Republicans to mock the policy. It has been done as a form of student protest across the country in recent times. Those white students are often labeled as racist. If there are minorities on their side, they are often labeled as "traitors" by liberals.

But the historical reality is that "Affirmative Action" with the quota system and reduced merits for the sake of "diversity" was actually rooted in racism. It's best to end it like it was in Florida. Jeb Bush abolished "Affirmative Action" in 2000. Over there, I never heard a minority complain it is gone. Many thrive without it.

I am Native American. I know how it feels to get the highest score on a math exam on a campus where "Affirmative Action" was outlawed. I've done that in graduate school. It was awesome - my own victory against white racism of my childhood in rural Arizona.

Because of rampant discrimination that occurred through our history, I think Affirmative Action was justifiable. However, there should have been a timetable to end it and that should have been by now if not sooner.

Have to agree with Traveler - Affirmative Action was needed back at that time - but times have changed and despite what many blacks on this forum feel - the bigotry is not what it once was. Now affirmative action is handicapping people - putting them in positions because of race or gender when there are more qualified candidates.

And yet if you try to criticize affirmative action in a satirical way on a college campus you will be labeled a racist:

https://www.texastribune.org/2016/10...n-met-protest/

The UT student body president does not prescribe to what was put forth by the OP:
"The act of putting financial values on groups of people based on their gender or on their race, in my opinion, is a really prominent way to engage in racism in 2016."

So which is it? Does the NAACP endorsing AA support the supposedly racist motivations of Nixon? That they are somehow aligned?

I also must point out that AA is not targeted at blacks exclusively, as in the UT case it also extends to hispanics. Is AA a means to discredit hispanics too? If so why does the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities support AA?
