Kind of off-topic, but yes...this type of behavior from police had been going on for decades. Only due to technology advances has it been coming to light the last 10 years or so, because all the witnesses now have camera phones to record it all....
Rememeber the shooting of Walter Scott in South Carolina? The officer shot an unarmed man in the back. UNAWARE THAT HE WAS BEING RECORDED (the person who shot the video was 100 feet away), officer Michael Slager tampered with evidence to make it appear that Scott had a weapon and that there was a scuffle between them. If it wasn't for the person recording that incident, the cop would've cleanly gotten away with evidence tampering.
I will not bore you with the details of when I have been pulled over by police before. I've had guns drawn on me by police...twice. I've had my car searched by drug dogs and DEA agents wearing white gloves before. Told my car "looked suspicious." Told by a North Carolina State Trooper in 2005 while I was in the Air Force that "uniforms come a dime a dozen." I wish they had camera phones back then so I could capture how I was disrespected by police on camera for the world to see.
Look, I know people on all sides of the argument are probably tired of the "racism" debate. But to say the race issue doesn't at least "play a part" in the relationship between blacks and police.....is just silly.
This gets to me because of this. I feel like it could be me that's next. I've never had a problem with the police personally. However, I know people that have. My father has been harassed. I was in the car when it happened.
As for me, there have been cases where the police have been called on me. In those cases, no laws were broken. It amounted to "he looked suspicious" or "I was scared". Those times the police were like "he's harmless". I'm worried someone might phone the police because I "look suspicious" and there might be some nut who shouldn't be an officer ready to crack skulls.
I think in this case, some people want to see a teenager get kicked or skulls cracked, even if said person isn't offering resistance. My theory is that with young Black men, we're looked at as basically a danger to society. The idea being "we want to see skulls cracked and people beaten down, it will keep the Blacks in line, and us safe".
They deserved it. Unfortunately, another police department will hire them. It reminds me of the Catholic Church- the bad ones just move to another location.
They deserve more than firing. However, some people will still try to justify that beating. There are those who want to see more of that happen. More of the "crack skulls" kind of thing.

I am terrified.....TERRIFIEDof police. Having been harassed and disrespected by cops so many times in my life, when I get pulled over, I have borderline panic attacks and I get dizzy because I am so scared.
To protect myself when pulled over these days, I immediately either call my wife or my mother on facetime and make sure they are recording our video chat, in case anything goes bad.
As a black man, between my own experiences with bad cops and from what I've seen in the news, I have been conditioned to be fearful of my life when dealing with police. If you think I'm being dramatic, feel free to PM me and I'll go into detail about the timeS (plural) that police have pointed guns at me.
America.
