Because it fits the current "we are victims" agenda of many Republicans. This is not a new crime, it's plea change. The story was widely reported on when he was initially charged.
If they can't name the Democrat leader in the title, it's not worth opening the clickbait link to find out who this "leader" is.
Is anyone aware that the governor of Alabama just resigned rather than face impeachment? Anyone aware that the Texas attorney general is facing trial for securities fraud? This media blackout is working in favor of anyone not involved in the Trump administration, which is the near-singular focus of the political news and commentary business these days.
Now you can all argue it's only a Dem problem like when a Rep is caught, but we all know it's a human problem.
Only thing I see that's different is the press covers for the Dems when it happens and they splash it all over the front page when a Rep does it.

Prove it Janelle. Find a comparison of the media response that shows a preponderance of the stories for Republicans gets a bigger play. It might even be true. Hey that guy in Alabama raised some joy in us old guys (and old women). The guys because he was still getting into it in his seventies. Kind of like the dream of being shot by the jealous husband while engaged with the wife at 85. If you got to go that is the way.
The gals love it because it was the long term wife who nailed his backside to the wall. And she seemed pleased about it.
